A migrants' boat capsizes off Italy; about 20 reported missing
About 20 migrants are believed to be missing after their boat capsized in the Mediterranean this week, the UN refugee agency said Wednesday.
Seven Syrians were rescued and taken to the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, the Italian coast guard said.
Chiara Cardoletti, the UNHCR representative to Italy, said on X that the seven survivors were “in critical conditions and many have lost their relatives." Survivors said they had left Libya on September 1 and the accident occurred after one day of sailing, Italian news agency ANSA reported.
According to the survivors, 20 people are missing, including three children.

119 roads including 2 national highways closed in Himachal Pradesh, rains continue
Continuous rains in Himachal Pradesh has led to closure of 119 roads, including two National Highways, and the local met office has warned of low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of six out of 12 districts in the state.
The local meteorological office warned of low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Kinnaur till Thursday. It also issued a "yellow" alert of heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in the state on Wednesday.
Intermittent rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh. Kasauli recorded 88 mm of rains followed Dharamshala 75.6 mm, Kandaghat 66 mm, Kataula 65.2 mm, Dhaulakuan 58 mm , Shimla 54.1 mm, Bilaspur 50.8 mm, Naina devi 42.6 mm, Malraon 40 mm and Jubbarhatti 31.6 mm.
National Highway 707 is blocked between Hatkoti in Shimla district and Poanta Sahib in Sirmaur district and National Highway 5 (the Hindustan-Tibet road) is blocked near Negulsari in Kinnaur district.

Traffic snarls, waterlogging in Delhi following rain
Rains in the national capital on Wednesday led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in many parts as the city witnessed a a four-degree temperature drop accompanied by pleasant winds and overcast skies throughout the day.
According to the weather department, Ayanagar recorded 50 mm of rainfall over a three-hour period between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm, as per data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Narela recorded 34.5 mm of rainfall, while Safdarjung, the city's primary weather station, recorded 7.2 mm. Ridge recorded 11.8 mm, Delhi University recorded 20 mm and Lodi Road recorded 4.4 mm, according to the IMD.
The Delhi Traffic Police informed people about traffic disruptions and road diversions through its posts on X, advising commuters to take alternate routes due to waterlogging in several areas.
"Traffic is affected on Ring Road in the carriageway from Safdarjung Hospital towards Dhaula Kuan due to heavy waterlogging near Satya Niketan Bus Stand. Kindly plan your journey accordingly," the traffic police said in a post on X.

Met dept says heavy rains in Rajasthan to continue for next few days; trains cancelled, diverted
Heavy rains lashed parts of Rajasthan leading to the cancellation or diversion of trains due to damage to a railway track, officials said Wednesday.
The meteorological department has predicted that the period of heavy rain will continue in the state for the next few days.
A North Western Railway official said five trains were cancelled, two were partially cancelled and the route of another was changed due to damage to the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer railway track.
According to the Jaipur Met Centre, in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday, rains were recorded with thunder at most places in the state.
Heavy rain was recorded at some places in Jaipur, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Banswara, Kota, Bundi, Baran, Tonk, Jodhpur, Jalore and Pali districts and heavy to very heavy rain wasrecorded at some places in Udaipur, Bhilwara and Barmer districts.
Rishabhdev in Udaipur, with 167 mm, recorded the highest rainfall. In Gudha Malani of Barmer, 147 mm of rain was recorded and Kotdi of Bhilwara saw 119 mm rainfall.

One of Puja Khedkar's disability certificates may be forged: Police to Delhi HC
The Delhi Police has told the high court that former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar submitted two disability certificates to show multiple disabilities and its probe has revealed that one of the documents may be "forged" and "fabricated". The Delhi Police made the submission in response to the anticipatory bail plea of Khedkar, who has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits.

Arson in Manipur's Jiribam district, retired police officer's house burnt
Fresh arson erupted in Manipur's Jiribam district after suspected 'tribal village volunteers' set a house on fire early Wednesday morning, police said. The three-room house at Jakuradhor in the district belonged to a retired police officer. The family had vacated the property following previous violence in the district, police added.
Armed men struck around 3.30 am, taking advantage of the darkness to burn down the house, located 28 km from Jiribam district headquarters, near Hmar-dominated Pherzawl district, police said.
