Congress will form govt in Mizoram: Shashi Tharoor
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday exuded confidence that his party will form the next government in Mizoram.
Addressing a press conference here, the Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala asserted that Mizoram will be the first state in the Northeast where the Congress will return to power after 2014, when the BJP formed the government at the Centre.
Mizoram was the last Congress-ruled state in the Northeast before the party lost power to the Mizo National Front (MNF) in the 2018 assembly polls.
Shehbaz Sharif condemns terrorist attack on Pakistan Air Force base in Mianwali
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the terrorist attack on the Pakistan Air Force training base in Mianwali, Pakistan-based Dawn reported. He noted that these attacks showcase the desperation of enemies.
In a post on X, Shehbaz Sharif stated, "Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on the Pakistan Air Force base in Mianwali. Salute our security forces for their swift action, preventing casualties and foiling evil plans of our enemies. These repeated attacks reveal our enemies' desperation, but we stand resilient. 'BJP most scared of me,' says Chhattisgarh CM Baghel as ED links him to betting app deal
Facing heat over an alleged Rs 508 crore deal with Mahadev app promoters, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is scared of him the most that's why it is defaming him through the Enforcement Directorate.
"Because BJP is scared of me the most. That's why they want to defame me by accusing me (through the ED)," Baghel told reporters here.
Earlier on Friday, the Enforcement Directorate said that they have intercepted a cash courier Asim Das who was sent from UAE especially, to deliver a large amount of cash for electioneering expenses of the ruling Congress party in Chhattisgarh.
PM Modi lauds Assam's 'Khel Maharan' initiative
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed happiness at Assam organising 'Khel Maharan' in the state and said that this initiative, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, takes sports to the grassroots level.
The Assam government led by CM Himanta is all set to organise 'Khel Maharan' from November 1. It will be running till January 10 next year.
"I am really happy to learn that the Assam Government has organised 'Khel Maharan' across the state between November 2023 and January 2024. This initiative to take sports to the grassroots level is commendable," said PM Modi in a statement.
Antony Blinken to hear calls for immediate ceasefire from Arab ministers in Israel-Hamas conflict
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will hear demands for an immediate ceasefire and urgent delivery of aid into the Gaza Strip when he meets Arab Ministers, The Times of Israel reported, citing Jordanian statement.
According to Jordan's foreign ministry, the ministers will also "discuss the repercussions [of the war] and ways to end this dangerous deterioration that threatens the security of the entire region."
Jordan Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi's office announced that it will host a summit for Arab foreign ministers on Saturday with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, according to The Times of Israel reported.
ED claims against Bhupesh Baghel part of BJP's conspiracy to tarnish image of Chhattisgarh CM: Cong
The Congress alleged on Saturday that the claims made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Bhupesh Baghel are part of a "conspiracy" hatched by the BJP to tarnish the Chhattisgarh chief minister's image and asserted that the people of the state would give a befitting reply to such tactics in the upcoming Assembly poll.
The opposition party said it will also take up the matter with the Election Commission (EC) as it was a clear case of "violation" of the Model Code of Conduct.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that with the defeat of the BJP certain in the Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, the saffron party is misusing central agencies, such as the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Legislature can enact fresh law to cure deficiency, can't overrule it: CJI
Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud on Saturday said the legislature can enact a fresh law to cure a deficiency in a judgment but it cannot directly overrule it.
Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit here, Chandrachud said judges don't think about how the society would respond when they decide cases and that is the difference between the elected arm of the government and the judiciary.
"There is a dividing line between what the legislature can do, and what the legislature can't do when there is a judgment of the court. If a judgment decides a particular issue and it points out a deficiency in law, it is always open for the legislature to enact a fresh law to cure the deficiency," the CJI said.
MCD deploys 517 surveillance teams to combat air pollution in Delhi
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken a number of steps to combat air pollution in the city, as part of its Winter Action Plan (WAP).
The WAP includes a number of measures to reduce dust pollution, open burning, and C & D waste violations.
The Public Work Department has provided 60 Anti-Smog guns (ASGs) to assist MCD in combatting dust pollution in Hotspot areas.
Delhi records 'severe' air quality; minimum temperature settles at 16.6 deg C
The air quality in several areas of Delhi was recorded in the "severe" category on Saturday morning while the minimum temperature in the national capital settled at 16.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average, officials said.
Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 407 at 9 am.
The AQI at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range and Shadipur was recorded at 453. It was 448 at Anand Vihar, 442 at Wazirpur, 435 at Punjabi Bagh, 434 at Bawana, 432 at Okhla and 431 at R K Puram, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Items of hatred in Rahul Gandhi's 'Mohabbat ki Dukaan': Scindia's jibe at Congress
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday attacked Rahul Gandhi and said that there are only items of hatred available in Rahul's 'Mohabbat ki dukaan'.
Jyotiraditya Scindia said, "This (Congress) is a govt of lies and loot. He (Rahul Gandhi) says he has 'Mohabbat ki dukaan' but there are only items of hatred in that 'Mohabbat ki dukaan'. On one side there is BJP's double engine govt and on the other side there is a govt without an engine..."
Further taking a jibe at the Congress party, Scindia took reference from a popular Bollywood song "Jhoot Bole Kauva Kate" and said that he is the black crow for the Congress party, indicating that the party should fear him.
MoS Lekhi, Paraguay's Vice FM agree to further strengthen multifaceted cooperation

Special Investigation Agency carries out searches in J&K's Poonch
The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) carried out searches at a house in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district in connection with a terror-related case on Saturday, officials said.
The searches were conducted around 4 am at the house of suspect Mohammad Hafiz in Kanuyian village, they added.
Hafiz was not present at his house when it was raided, the officials said.
Kamal Nath hits out at Scindia for alleging that Congress distributed fake loan waiver certificates
Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath has hit out at Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for alleging that he was witness to the distribution of alleged fake certificates of loan waivers when the Congress was in power in MP.
Scindia had referred to a popular proverb to call himself the black crow for the Congress.
"Whatever Jyotiraditya Scindia ji says, everyone knows what deal was done. Everyone knows what kind of benefits he took from our government and the public is a witness. Whether he (Scindia) is black or yellow, I don't have to answer that," Kamal Nath told reporters in Bhopal today.
