GST reward scheme on anvil; customers can participate in lucky draw
Individuals may soon get rewarded for uploading GST invoice on a mobile app as the government is likely to launch the long awaited 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' scheme soon.
Under the invoice incentivisation scheme, cash prize of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore monthly/quarterly could be given to individuals who upload invoice received from retailer or wholesaler on the app, two officials told PTI.
Among state exam boards, highest number of NEET-UG applicants from Maha
The highest number of applications for medical exam NEET-UG in the last five years from among state boards was from Maharashtra, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA). The Karnataka state board is at the second spot followed by Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh in terms of applicants.
This year, more than 20.38 lakh candidates had appeared for NEET. It was 14.10 lakh in 2019.
DMK begins state-wide hunger strike in Chennai, seeks abolition of NEET
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)'s student wing and the medical wing began a state-wide hunger strike demanding the abolition of the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) in Chennai on Sunday.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare Udhayanidhi Stalin also participated in the one-day hunger strike in Chennai organized by the DMK student wing and the medical wing.

To develop the market for emerging investment instruments, Sebi is looking to bring in norms for follow-on offers by real estate investment trusts (REITs) and infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs).
REITs and InvITs were introduced in India to provide investors with an opportunity to gain exposure to real estate and infrastructure projects respectively, with diversification of risks through pooling arrangements.

The direct contribution of Indian hotel industry to the country's GDP is estimated to touch $ 1 trillion by 2047 driven by a significant jump in domestic tourist visits and international arrivals, according to a report.
As per 'Vision 2047: Indian Hotel Industry' report by the Hotel Association of India (HAI) and Benori Knowledge, the direct contribution of the hotel industry to GDP was $ 40 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach USD 68 billion by 2027.
By 2047, it will reach around USD 1 trillion, it added.

ONGC Videsh secures 3-yr extension for Vietnam oil block in South China Sea
India's flagship overseas firm ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) has secured another three-year extension to explore oil and gas in a Vietnamese block in the contested waters of the South China Sea, the firm's parent ONGC said.
This is the eighth extension for OVL, the overseas arm of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The seventh extension to explore oil and gas was till June 15, 2023 and PTI on August 13 reported that the company was in talks with Vietnamese authorities for another three-year extension.

The Kerala government has initiated the distribution of social security, welfare board pension for the months of May and June in the state, in view of the upcoming Onam festival season.
The Left government will be distributing Rs 3,200 each to around 60 lakh beneficiaries and allotted Rs 1,762 crore for this, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Hilary downgraded again to category 1 hurricane as Mexico braces for impact
Hurricane Hilary roared toward Mexico's Baja California peninsula late Saturday as a downgraded but still dangerous Category 1 hurricane likely to bring catastrophic flooding to the region and cross into the southwestern US as a tropical storm.
The National Weather Center in Miami said in the most recent advisory at 9 p.m. that the maximum sustained wind speed is 90 mph and the storm was about 175 miles (281 kilometres) south of Punta Eugenia, Mexico, and 535 miles (855 kilometres) from San Diego, California.
