Interim govt chief Yunus accuses Sheikh Hasina of destroying every institution of Bangladesh

Bangladesh's interim government chief Muhammad Yunus on Sunday accused deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina of destroying every institution of the country in her efforts to stay in power as he promised to hold a free, fair and participatory election as soon as his government completes the "mandate" of carrying out "vital reforms." Hasina, 76, resigned and fled to India on August 5 following a massive protest by students against a controversial quota system in government jobs.

HC relief for candidate rejected for Delhi Police job over arm tattoo, allows him to join training

The Delhi High Court has come to the rescue of a Delhi Police constable candidate who was rejected on account of a "faded tattoo" on his right arm, and ordered the authorities to allow him to join the force. The high court, which noted that the candidate has already undergone a surgery for the removal of the tattoo, asked him to appear before it and physically saw his right forearm.

Mumbai: Two detained after assault of woman doctor at Sion hospital

Police have booked three persons, including two women, and detained two of them after a female doctor was allegedly assaulted at civic-run Sion hospital here in the early hours of Sunday, an official said. The accused allegedly targeted the doctor when she was cleaning blood from the ear of a man at the casualty ward of the facility, officially known as Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College.

Foxconn business in India crosses $10 billion; invests $1.4 billion till date

iPhone contract manufacturer Foxconn's business in India has grown to over $10 billion till 2024, its chairman Young Liu said here. Foxconn has invested $1.4 billion in India till date, according to the company. "So far, till last year, we have done more than $10 billion in business size. We will do much more in this coming year," Liu told PTI.

Bangladesh deposed PM Sheikh Hasina sued in 2013 'mass murder' case

An application was filed with a court in Bangladesh on Sunday to register a case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others, accusing them of carrying out a mass murder by indiscriminately firing on a rally organised in 2013 by Hefazat-e-Islam. Babul Sardar Chakhari, chairman of the Bangladesh People's Party (BPP), applied to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-Al-Farabi, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.

Assam: Drugs worth nearly Rs 1.5 cr seized, four arrested

Drugs worth nearly Rs 1.5 crore were seized and five persons, including two women, were arrested in two different operations in the Nagaon district of Assam, police said on Sunday. In the first case, a team from Dhing police station recovered four plastic packets containing suspected heroin, weighing 167.45 gram, the Nagaon Police said in a post on X.

Speeding Mercedes mows down man in southeast Delhi, driver arrested

A man died after he was allegedly mowed down by a speeding Mercedes car here in southeast Delhi, police said on Sunday. The driver of the car was arrested later, they said. According to the victim's family members, the car allegedly hit his cycle from behind and it was dragged on the road for several metres.
