Encounter underway in Jammu-Kashmir
An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Tuesday, officials said. Based on a specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, security forces launched a search operation in Nagmarg in the north Kashmir district, they said. After suspicious activity was observed, the security forces challenged the terrorists, who fired at the forces.

SC extends interim protection from arrest granted to actor Siddique in 'rape' case
The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Malayalam film actor Siddique in an alleged rape case. A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma extended its interim order of September 30 in which it granted him interim protection from arrest in the case and directed him to cooperate in the investigation. The bench passed the order after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Siddique, said he had a bad throat and sought some time to argue the matter.

No oral mentioning for urgent hearing of cases will be allowed: CJI Khanna
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on Tuesday said no oral submissions for urgent listing and hearing of cases will be permitted and urged lawyers to either send emails or written letters for it. Usually lawyers mention their cases before the CJI-led bench at the outset of the day's proceedings for out of turn listings and hearing of cases on grounds of urgency. “No written or oral mentionings anymore. Only in email or written slip/letters. Just state the reasons for urgency,” the CJI said.

Torrential rain that lashed Chennai and its suburbs since last night necessitated the administration to order closure of schools in the city for Tuesday.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has predicted rain for a week from November 11, due to a low pressure area formed under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation was likely to move slowly nearly westwards towards the Tamil Nadu/Sri Lanka coasts during the next two days, it had said.

Maharashtra polls: Rs 3.7 crore cash seized in Thane
Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, authorities in Thane district have seized Rs 3.7 crore cash from a builder's bungalow and a van, officials said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip, the police raided the bungalow located in Nerul area of Navi Mumbai on Monday night and seized Rs 2.5 crore cash from there, a police official said. A probe was on to ascertain the source of the money and to whom it belonged, he said.

Bus falls into ditch in UP, 12 passengers injured

The Delhi government passed a proposal on Monday to reinstate 10,000 bus marshals in a bid to ensure the safety of women and elders. Addressing a joint press conference on Monday along with Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, Chief Minister Atishi said that due to the absence of bus marshals in buses, women and elderly people are feeling unsafe and so the proposal to re-instate bus marshals was made in the Cabinet meeting held on Monday.

July 2023 train firing: Trial begins as Mumbai court records testimony of 1st witness
RPF constable Chetansinh Chaudhary, who was later dismissed from service, is accused of fatally shooting his superior officer Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tika Ram Meena and three passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express when the train was on the city's outskirts on July 31, 2023. The first witness, also a dismissed Railway Protection Force (RPF) staffer, was with Chaudhary at the time of the shooting. He is also the complainant in the case.

Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu expresses confidence in achieving 15% growth rate
"Creating wealth is possible only by providing various kinds of opportunities following which the living conditions of the poor can be increased by distributing this wealth to them," Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu said while interacting with various industrial giants during a Task Force meeting on the steps to be taken to achieve the goal of Vision-2047 on Monday.
