Newly elected Haryana MLAs to take oath on Oct 25
The newly elected members of the Haryana assembly will be administered oath here on October 25. Senior Congress leader and party MLA Raghuvir Singh Kadian (80) will be the pro-tem Speaker in the 15th Haryana Legislative Assembly and will administer the oath. But before that Kadian will be administered oath by Governor Bandaru Dattatreya as acting speaker.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Monday claimed the ruling Shiv Sena "removed" an accused in the journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case from the party fold temporarily until elections are over. Amid backlash, the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday stayed the appointment of the accused, Shrikant Pangarkar, to any post in the party in Jalna district. Pangarkar, who was granted bail by the Karnataka High Court in September, joined the Shiv Sena on Friday in the presence of party leader and former minister Arjun Khotkar, ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls.

Priyanka Gandhi to file nomination for Wayanad bypoll on Wednesday
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll on Wednesday, party sources said. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chiefs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will be present on the occasion, they said. Before filing the nomination, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will lead a roadshow from Kalpetta New Bus Stand at 11 AM. The nomination will be filed before the district collector at 12 noon on October 23, they said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday expressed grief over the killing of three construction workers from Bihar in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district.
Seven people, including three migrant workers from Bihar, were killed in a terrorist attack at a construction site in Ganderbal on Sunday night. In a statement, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said Kumar directed the state's resident commissioner in Delhi to make adequate arrangements for transporting the bodies of the three persons to their native villages in Bihar.

SC rejects Kejriwal's plea against defamation case for comments on PM Modi
The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea filed by former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal challenging an order of the Gujarat High Court refusing to quash summons in a defamation case over his alleged remarks over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational qualification. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S V N Bhatti noted that a separate bench of the apex court had junked the plea filed by AAP leader Sanjay Singh on April 8 in the same case.

The cyclonic circulation over the Andaman sea on Monday intensified into a low-pressure area and is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm by October 23 which will impact Odisha-West Bengal coast, the IMD said. The India Meteorological Department in a special message said Sunday's upper air cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal has formed a low-pressure area over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea in the early morning.

Centre to extend UDAN scheme for 10 more years: Civil aviation minister
The government will extend the regional air connectivity scheme UDAN for 10 more years, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said on Monday. UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) is aimed at enhancing regional air connectivity and making flying more affordable. It was introduced on October 21, 2016 for 10 years. UDAN has led to the birth and growth of regional airlines, generation of jobs and contribution to tourism, the minister said at a function in the national capital to mark eight years of the scheme.
