7 governor-appointed MLCs sworn in ahead of Maharashtra polls announcement

Few hours before the announcement of the Maharashtra assembly polls, seven members of the state legislative council, appointed by the governor, were administered the oath of secrecy today. Of the seven new MLCs, the BJP has nominated three, while Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's NCP have two members each.

Cong to contest Jharkhand polls as part of JMM-led alliance

The Congress on Tuesday said it will contest the Jharkhand assembly elections in alliance with the JMM, with a final decision on seat sharing expected soon. "We will contest elections with our alliance partners in the state. A final decision on the seat sharing will be done soon. Remark on condition of hospitals: SC issues fresh notice to UP govt on Somnath Bharti's plea

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a fresh notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on AAP leader Somnath Bharti's plea seeking the transfer of a case filed against him for allegedly making derogatory remarks on the condition of hospitals and schools in the state. The case against Bharti is pending before the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate of Sultanpur. He moved the top court seeking the transfer of the case to the Rouse Avenue Courts here.
