Campaign to prevent open burning to begin on Nov 6, 588 teams to be deployed: Gopal Rai

A campaign to discourage open burning of waste will begin in Delhi from Wednesday in view of the rising air pollution, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference, Rai said 588 teams from different civic agencies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), will be deployed on field to report open burning incidents across the city. "Pollution level in Delhi has reached 400, next ten days are going to be crucial. I held a meeting with 33 departments to take stock of the situation. All departments have been instructed to stay on alert mode," Rai said.

JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal to visit K'taka on Nov 7 to meet farmers protesting Waqf notices

The chairman of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, Jagdambika Pal, will visit Karnataka on Thursday to meet farmers protesting against notices, now withdrawn, served to some of them for allegedly encroaching on Waqf properties. CBDT allows tax officials to waive or reduce interest due from assessee

The income tax department has allowed tax officials to either waive or reduce interest payable by a taxpayer, subject to specified conditions. Under the Income Tax Act Section 220 (2A), if a taxpayer fails to pay the tax amount specified in any demand notice, he/she is liable to pay interest at 1 per cent per month for the period of delay in making the payment.

Four arrested for hurling petrol bomb at Shiv Sena (Hind) leader's house in Punjab

Four people have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in a petrol bomb attack at the residence of a Shiv Sena (Hind) leader, police said on Tuesday. The petrol bomb was hurled at the residence of Shiv Sena (Hind) leader Harkirat Singh Khurana on November 2. No one was injured in the incident. Addressing the media here, Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldip Singh Chahal said four people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Finance Commission grants released for rural local bodies in Haryana, Tripura, Mizoram

The Central government has released the first installment of the 15th Finance Commission grants for 2024-25 to rural local bodies in Tripura and Haryana, and a second installment in Mizoram. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj said in Tripura, untied grants totalling Rs 31.40 crore and tied grants of Rs 47.10 crore have been released for all 1,260 rural local bodies (RLBs).

A case has been registered against Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy for allegedly threatening a senior police officer probing a mining case against him. The case was registered on Monday based on a complaint by Inspector General of Police M Chandra Sekhar alleging that Kumaraswamy threatened a government servant to prevent him from discharging his duties The complainant stated that he was heading the Special Investigation Team probing a mining case in which Kumaraswamy is an accused.
