Delay in granting statehood 'sin' against people of J-K, says People's Conference chief Sajad Lone

People's Conference chief Sajad Lone on Friday said the delay in granting statehood to Jammu and Kashmir was a "sin" against the people of the Union Territory. Lone, an MLA from Handwara in north Kashmir, also called for the inclusion of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in all security-related meetings.

"Irrespective of the political differences that we have here amongst us, the Union government needs to move fast on some issues. Delay of even a moment in granting statehood is a sin against the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Lone said in a post on X.

Bengaluru building collapse: One more body recovered; death toll climbs to 9

One more body was recovered on Friday during a search and rescue operation after an under-construction building collapsed at Babusapalya here, taking the death toll to nine, police said. Teams from the fire and emergency department, National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have been pressed into rescue operations since the incident occurred during heavy downpour on Tuesday, they said.

Israeli airstrike in southeast Lebanon on journalist compound kills 3 TV staffers

An Israeli airstrike on a compound housing journalists in southeast Lebanon has killed three media staffers, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said Friday.

Local news station Al Jadeed aired footage from the scene — a collection of chalets that had been rented by various media outlets — showing collapsed buildings and cars marked PRESS covered in dust and rubble. The Israeli army did not issue a warning prior to the strike.

CM Stalin urges EAM to secure release of fishermen detained by Lankan Navy

Cyclone Dana update: Heavy rains batters parts of South Bengal

Heavy rains packed lashed parts of southern West Bengal as the landfall process of the severe cyclonic storm “Dana” continued to tear through the Odisha coast since midnight. According to the latest bulletin from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the severe cyclonic storm lay centred over north coastal Odisha, near north-northwest of Dhamara and north-northwest of Habalikhati nature camp (Bhitarkanika).

Gulmarg terror attack: Two soldiers dead, toll rises to four

Two soldiers who were critically wounded in Thursday's terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll in the ambush to four. Two Army porters died on Thursday while another porter and a soldier were injured. Terrorists attacked a vehicle of the force six kilometres from tourist hotspot Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said on Thursday.
