Delhi BJP workers stage protest demanding appointment of civil defence volunteers, detained

Multiple BJP workers were detained by the Delhi police when they were staging a demonstration near Chief Minister Atishi's residence demanding immediate reappointment of 10,000 civil defence volunteers (CDVs) who were removed last year as bus marshals. Leading the protesters, Sachdeva accused Atishi of failing to do anything for reappointment of the bus marshals.

16th Finance Commission team arrives in Nagaland

Members of the 16th Finance Commission arrived in Nagaland on Monday on a three-day visit, an official said. The Finance Commission team comprising chairman Arvind Panagriya and members Ajay Narayan Jha, Annie George Mathew and Manoj Panda was received at Dimapur Airport by Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and Chief Secretary J Alam. During the three-day stay, the Finance Commission team would hold a closed-door meeting with the chief minister, ministers and senior officers in Kohima on Tuesday.

Supreme Court adjourns plea against withdrawal of CBI consent for investigation against Karnataka deputy CM

The top court on Monday adjourned by four weeks the hearing on a plea against the withdrawal of consent to the CBI for probing a DA case against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan deferred the matter after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also filed an appeal against the Karnataka High Court order.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today labelled the BJP's state-wide protest against the Congress government on the Waqf issue as nothing but politics. "I have said very clearly after holding a meeting that notices issued to farmers should be immediately revoked, and any unauthorised amendments in land records without due notice must also be nullified. And farmers should not be evicted for any reasons, whether they are Muslims or Hindus or Christians anyone else," he added. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said he will discuss with his Chhattisgarh counterpart about challenges arising due to herds of elephants entering MP from the neighbouring state. Yadav, who is scheduled to visit Chhattisgarh later in the day, also advocated for coordination between the forest departments of the two states over various issues. This comes after three-time former MLA Brahm Singh Tanwar quit the party and joined the AAP last week.Tyagi, a former two-time municipal councillor and standing committee chairman of erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation, also contested the assembly polls in 2015 from Laxmi Nagar constituency on a BJP ticket.

CBSE to open office in Tripura after affiliated schools' dismal performance in board exams

The CBSE will open a sub-regional office in Agartala amid outrage over the dismal performance of state-run schools affiliated to it in board examinations, an official said on Monday. After the BJP came to power in Tripura in 2018, 125 state-run schools were rechristened as Vidyajyoti Schools, and the CBSE's English-medium curriculum was introduced. This year, while 61 per cent of students of these schools cleared the CBSE class 10 examinations, 59 per cent of students were successful in the class 12 exams.

Oppn MPs say they may disassociate with Waqf committee, protest Chair's 'unilateral' decisions

Opposition MPs in the parliamentary committee scrutinising the Waqf (Amendment) Bill are likely to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday over its chairperson Jagdambika Pal's alleged unilateral decisions and attempts to "bulldoze" proceedings without giving them reasonable time to prepare.
Claiming that they have been "stonewalled" during the committee's proceedings, opposition MPs have written in their letter, which they circulated among themselves on Monday, to Birla that they may be forced to disassociate with the panel.
