Congress demands discussion in Parliament on India-China relations

Criticising the government over its statement in Parliament on India-China ties, the Congress on Sunday claimed that the Modi government has agreed to a "new normal" over the "old normal" prevailing before April 2020 which was unilaterally disturbed by China. It also demanded that Parliament be allowed to debate the full gamut of the relationship between the two countries.

States asked to submit action plans for implementation of national menstrual hygiene policy

The Centre has urged states to submit action plans for effective implementation of the menstrual hygiene policy for school girls to ensure their access to low-cost hygiene products and gender-responsive sanitation facilities in public and government-aided schools. The Union Health Ministry's letter to all states comes after the Supreme Court on November 12 stated that the effective roll-out of the policy would require comprehensive action plans tailored to the specific needs and contexts of each state and UT.

Two killed, one injured in motorcycle crash in UP's Barabanki

Two people died while another was injured when their motorcycle collided with another motorcycle in UP's Barabanki, police said. The accident occurred in Fatehpur tehsil area on Saturday night when Umakant Singh(45) and Rajesh Kumar (55) were travelling and crashed into Ankit's (25) motorcycle. The injured were taken to Community Health Center Suratganj where doctors declared Singh and Kumar brought dead, the police said.

Farmers in Gautam Buddha Nagar jail go on hunger strike

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Sunday said Greater Noida farmers, currently jailed, have gone on a hunger strike. They said the farmers have long-pending demands, including the implementation of a new law that ensures 10 per cent land allotment. The farmers have also demanded addressing the Leaseback (Adadi) settlement issue and enforcement of the 2013 Land Acquisition law.

Items worth Rs 12 lakh stolen during Dec 5 swearing-in ceremony; cops begin probe

Gold chains, mobile phones and cash cumulatively valued at Rs 12 lakh were stolen during the swearing-in ceremony of the Mahayuti government at the sprawling Azad Maidan in south Mumbai on December 5, a police official said. FIRs have been lodged against unidentified persons and efforts are on to nab the accused, the Azad Maidan police station official said.

105 members take oath as MLAs in Maharashtra assembly

As many as 105 members, including leaders of the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, took oath as MLAs in the newly constituted Maharashtra legislative assembly today, the second day of the special session. The opposition members had boycotted the oath-taking ceremony on Saturday, the first day of the special three-day session, alleging misuse of EVMs in the recently-held state polls.

Haryana Police fires teargas shells to halt farmers' march at Shambu border

Haryana security personnel lobbed teargas shells to disperse protesting farmers as they neared multi-layered barricades at the Shambhu border point between the state and neighbouring Punjab on Sunday. The teargas shells forced the farmers, some of whom had covered their faces and were wearing protective eyewear, to get back a few metres. Some were seen covering the shells with wet jute bags.

NGT sends notice to environment ministry over illegal dumping in Siliguri

National Green Tribunal has sought replies from the Union environment ministry's offices in West Bengal and Sikkim on the alleged illegal dumping of medical and hazardous waste in a vacant plot in West Bengal's Siliguri. The green body was hearing a matter where it had taken suo motu (on its own) cognisance of a newspaper report regarding the unauthorised dumping in the Farabari area of the town, allegedly from the neighbouring state of Sikkim.

Roof collapses, causes fire in Delhi's Shani Bazar injuring six members of family

Six members of a family were injured when the roof of their two-storey house collapsed and caused a fire in outer north Delhi today, police said. The incident occurred in Shani Bazar area around 7 am while the family was reportedly cooking, resulting in impact and burn injuries, they said.

Policeman shoots dead colleague before committing suicide in J&K's Udhampur

A policeman allegedly shot dead his colleague with an AK-47 assault rifle before turning the weapon on himself to commit suicide in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district early Sunday, officials said. The two policemen along with another colleague were travelling from north Kashmir's Sopore to the Subsidary Training Centre (STC) Talwara in Reasi district of Jammu region when the incident took place.
