Traffic in the national capital came to a standstill on Tuesday as throngs of shoppers flooded the markets to celebrate Dhanteras, creating significant delays and inconvenience to commuters, reports PTI. Commuters took to X saying the traffic was heavy at several places including Badarpur flyover, CV Raman Marg, Punjabi Bagh, Badarpur Mehrauli Road, Taimur Nagar-Maharani Bagh Road, Ashram and Yamuna Vihar.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan over money laundering charges in a case of alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board. The 110-page supplementary chargesheet also named one Mariam Siddiqui, who was not arrested by the ED as an accused in the case. The court is likely to take it up for consideration on November 4.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) to cover all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of income level. The Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme (AB PM-JAY) is promoted as the world’s largest publicly funded health insurance scheme, offering Rs 5 lakh in coverage to eligible individuals for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation. In addition, PM Modi inaugurated development projects worth nearly Rs 12,850 crore.
Security forces on Tuesday morning gunned down three terrorists holed up in a forest area near a village in the Akhnoor sector in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the number of militants killed in the 27-hour gunfight near the Line of Control (LoC) to three, officials said. One of the three terrorists who fired at an ambulance that was part of an army convoy moving near the LoC on Monday morning was killed by evening in the operation that also witnessed action by special forces and NSG commandos and the use of BMP-II infantry combat vehicles.

Over 150 people were injured, including eight seriously, in a fireworks accident during a temple festival near Neeleswaram here late Monday, police said. The injured have been taken to various hospitals in Kasargod, Kannur, and Mangaluru, they said. The accident occurred at Veerarkavu Temple near Neeleswaram. The District Collector, on Tuesday, said that those who were seriously injured had 80 per cent burns. "The cause of the accident is being ascertained. Samples have been collected from the site. A case was lodged," he said. He further said that according to a preliminary probe, the fireworks storage facility and the place where the crackers were being burst were close by.
A fresh gunfight erupted in a village in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region on Tuesday morning as security forces made a push for a final assault against two terrorists holed up in the area, officials said. One of the three terrorists who fired at an army ambulance that was part of a convoy moving near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning was killed by the evening in an operation launched by the special forces and NSG commandos.

Woman, MSEDCL staff booked on homicide charge months after man dies of electrocution
Eight months after a 20-year-old man died of electrocution in Ulhasnagar town in Maharashtra's Thane district, a case of culpable homicide was registered against a woman and MSEDCL officials, police said. The case was filed at the Vitthalwadi police station on October 26 based on a complaint lodged by the victim's brother. The victim, identified as Sujal Gadapkar, died after suffering an electric shock while taking a bath at his residence on February 22 this year.

Kerala CPI(M) leader Divya taken into custody over ADM suicide case
CPI(M) leader P P Divya, accused in the Kannur Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu suicide case, was taken into custody on Tuesday by the Kerala police, hours after a court rejected her anticipatory bail plea."She has been taken into custody," Kannur City Police Commissioner Ajit Kumar told reporters here.
Divya has been charged with abetment to suicide in the case. Earlier in the day, the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Thalassery, K T Nissar Ahammed rejected Divya's anticipatory bail plea.

Israeli strike in northern Gaza kills at least 60, officials say, as Hezbollah announces new leader

Uttarakhand HC issues contempt notice to top bureaucrat
The Uttarakhand High Court has issued a contempt notice to Dr Vivek Joshi, Secretary Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for allegedly defying its order over the empanelment of an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer with the Centre. Justice Alok Kumar Verma issued the notice to the DoPT on October 23 on a plea filed by IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi who alleged a wilful defiance of the court's order on his empanelment. A division bench of the high court had directed the Central government in September to provide Chaturvedi with his empanelment documents as a joint secretary (JS).

30 injured as mini-bus falls into ditch in J-K's Udhampur
At least 30 passengers, mostly students of a nursing college, were injured Tuesday when a private mini-bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in Udhampur district, officials said. The mini-bus was headed for Udhampur from Salmari when it met with an accident near village Farma around 12.30 pm, they said.
Authorities launched a rescue operation immediately and rushed 30 passengers to Government Medical College Hospital in Udhampur for treatment.

Similipal Tiger Reserve opens for tourists after cyclone
The authorities of Odisha's Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) on Tuesday opened for tourists, days after cyclone Dana hit the state. The Similipal National Park which included STR remained closed for visitors from October 23 due to the natural calamity. “This is to inform all the visitors/tourists that Similipal Tiger Reserve will be reopened for tourists from 29.10.2024 through Jashipur (Kalikaprashad) gate only. As of now, no visitors/ tourists are allowed through Pithabata gate. The exact date for entry through Pithabata gate will be notified on the official website,” a notification said.
