Pune police to look into veracity of medical documents submitted by trainee IAS Puja Khedkar

Probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar has been accused of misrepresenting herself under the physical disabilities category, an official said on Tuesday.
Khedkar, the 2023-batch officer currently posted in Washim district, had submitted to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) multiple medical certificates, one of them indicating visual impairment, under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) provision.

Two judges appointed to Supreme Court; top court to regain full strength

Justices N Kotiswar Singh and R Mahadevan were on Tuesday elevated as judges of the Supreme Court. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments on X. Once they take oath, the apex court will regain its sanctioned strength of 34, including the chief justice. Jammu and Kashmir's chief justice, Justice N Kotiswar Singh has become the first judge from Manipur to have been appointed to the top court.

Engineer arrested from Vadodara for tweet on bomb threat at Anant Ambani's wedding

The Mumbai police today took in custody a 32-year-old engineer from Gujarat over his social media post about a bomb threat at the wedding of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, here last week, an official said. Cops in Mumbai were on high alert after an X user @ffsfir wrote a post about the potential threat which reads like "My mind is wondering shamelessly that half the world would go upside down tomorrow after a bomb went off at the Ambani wedding. trillions of dollars in one pin code."

The Congress on Tuesday slammed the Centre after four soldiers were killed in an encounter in Doda, and asked what happened to all those "grand claims" made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Jammu and Kashmir.  "The spate of terror attacks that has gripped Jammu and Kashmir in the past 36 days, needs careful recalibration in our security strategy. The Modi government is acting as if everything is 'business as usual' and nothing has changed. They must know that increasingly the Jammu region is bearing the brunt of these attacks," Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said.

A fire broke out in a hostel of the Maulana Azad Medical College and Hospital here on Tuesday but no one was injured, Delhi Fire Services officials said. "Small fire in hostel of Maulana Azad Medical College and Hospital was received at 10.05 am. Total seven fire tenders were rushed to the site," an official said.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday vowed to avenge the death of the soldiers killed in an encounter with terrorists in Doda district. In a post on X, Sinha said, "We will avenge death of our soldiers & thwart the evil designs of terrorists and their associates. I call upon the people to unite in the fight against terrorism & provide us accurate information so that we can intensify anti-terror operations & neutralise the terror ecosystem." Four army personnel, including an officer, died after being injured in a gunfight with heavily armed terrorists in Doda district, officials said on Tuesday.

Previous MNF government has left behind over Rs 13,500 crore liabilities: Mizoram minister Lalsawivunga

Mizoram minister Lalsawivunga has claimed that what the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has done in the last seven months could not be achieved by the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Congress during their rule for 37 years. Addressing a function at the ZPM office here on Monday, Lalsawivunga, a cabinet minister holding several portfolios including art and culture and animal husbandry, claimed that the previous MNF government has left behind over Rs 13,500 crore liabilities, which is 95.6 per cent of the state's annual budget of Rs 14,209.94 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal.
