Haryana Assembly polls: Railways accepts Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia's resignation with immediate effect
The Railways today accepted the resignations of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, officials said. In separate notices issued on Monday, the Northern Railway said their resignations tendered on September 6 were "accepted by the competent authority with immediate effect." Both Punia and Phogat joined the Congress recently. Phogat has been given a party ticket to contest the Haryana assembly polls from the Julana constituency.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and requested to ensure the release of 14 fishermen and three mechanised fishing boats that are in the custody of the Sri Lankan Navy. According to the letter written by MK Stalin on September 7, 14 fishermen from Pudukkottai District along with their three mechanised fishing boats were taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Punjab doctors commence 3-day strike, patients suffer due to suspended OPD services
Government doctors in Punjab today suspended outpatient department (OPD) services for three hours across the state to press for their demands, including reinstatement of the assured career progression scheme and adequate security measures for healthcare workers. The protest, being held under the banner of Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association, will continue till September 11 in district and sub-divisional hospitals, and community health centres, said the protesting doctors.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that female CISF personnel have not been given adequate accommodation. “There are three lady companies of the CISF which are not provided adequate accommodation, take 1.5 hours to travel,” he said.
