39 sub-districts to become operational in Assam from Oct 4

Thirty-nine sub-districts of Assam, formed to increase administrative efficiency, will become functional from October 4, an official notification said. The headquarters of these sub-districts, called 'Xama-zilla' in Assamese, will also become operational on the same day, it said. "The Governor of Assam is pleased to notify that the sub-districts are known as 'Xama-Zilla' in Assamese and 39 nos. of the following Sub-districts 'Xama-Zilla' along with the headquarters shall become functional with effect from 4th October 2024 in the public interest," said the notification,

Delhi government sets up 24x7 'Green War Room' to tackle winter pollution

The Delhi government has set up a 24x7 'Green War Room' to enhance the execution of its 21-point winter action plan aimed at curbing pollution in the national capital, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Monday. Addressing a press conference, Rai said that a team of eight environmental experts will manage the war room, which has been assigned seven key responsibilities. A new task assigned to the war room this year includes analysing drone mapping and conducting real-time source apportionment studies, Rai said.

Maharashtra cabinet accepts panel report on SOP for granting Kunbi-Maratha certificates

The Maharashtra cabinet on Monday accepted the second and third reports of the Justice Shinde committee, set up to finalise the protocol for issuing Kunbi-Maratha and Maratha-Kunbi certificates based on historical records. Kunbi (an agrarian community) is classified under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) segment in Maharashtra. With the assembly polls looming, the cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde cleared 38 proposals, some of them related to strengthening road and metro rail infrastructure in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

Security forces on Monday extended the ongoing search operations to new areas in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua and Rajouri districts to hunt down terrorists following recent encounters in the region, officials said. While a policeman and a terrorist were killed and two police officers injured in a fierce gunbattle in remote Kog-Mandli forest village in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district on Saturday evening, a brief exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces in Manial Gali in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district on Sunday evening.

Muzaffarnagar riots: Court acquits 10 for lack of evidence in murder case

A court here has acquitted 10 people accused of killing a man during the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts in 2013 due to lack of evidence.
Additional District Sessions Judge Anjani Kumar Singh acquitted Gaurav, Amarpal, Rocky, Ratan, Dinesh, Yogesh, Abhishek, Roobi, Kapil Kumar and Manoj Kumar, saying prosecution has failed to prove its story. The order was passed on September 26 and made available two days later.
