Four bodies found near dam on outskirts of Ranchi

Bodies of four people, aged between 25 and 30, were found near a dam on the outskirts of Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, police said on Wednesday.
The bodies were recovered around 11 pm on Tuesday near Rukka dam under the Ranchi Sadar Police Station limits. The police suspected that the four died due to a lightning strike while they were catching fish at the dam. After the family members of the deceased informed the police, a team of police personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies, a senior officer said. "The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of the death. But, prima facie, it appears that they died due to lightning strike," Sadar Police Station in-charge Kuldeep Kumar told PTI.

Situation tense but under control after clashes between students, police in Manipur

The situation in Manipur remained tense but under control on Wednesday after students clashed with security forces during their march to Raj Bhavan here a day before, police said. Curfew, which was imposed in the state's capital Imphal on Tuesday afternoon, continued to be in place this morning, while additional security forces were deployed and frequent patrolling by policemen was underway in the town to avoid any untoward incident, a senior officer said.
"The situation remains tense but under control," he said. A clash broke out between students and security forces during a march to the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.

Rahul Gandhi's clarification on reservation false, misleading: BSP chief Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati alleged Wednesday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was making misleading statements about reservation, and said his own party did not let the Bill on SC/ST reservation in promotions pass during its 10-year rule at the Centre.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also claimed that when not in power, the Congress talks about the "neglected" classes of SC, ST and OBC but when in power, it works "against" their interests.

Congress MP from Inner Manipur A Bimol Akoijam has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing deep anguish over the "unprecedented violent crisis" in Manipur and called for "corrective measures" such as ensuring that the security forces act decisively to rein in the violence.
In his letter to Shah on Tuesday, Akoijam also called for thoroughly investigating the allegations of involvement by illegal immigrants, foreign elements and illicit drug mafia in the present crisis.

Seven killed as mini truck overturns in Andhra Pradesh

Seven people were killed when a mini truck in which they were travelling overturned in this district on Wednesday, police said. The accident occurred in the Chilaka Pakala area of Chinnaigudem in Devarapalli mandal, East Godavari district. "Seven people died. One person survived and he is alright. He is able to speak," East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Narasimha Kishore told reporters.

Sandip Ghosh's wife purchased properties without approval from WB govt: ED

The Enforcement Directorate Tuesday alleged that the wife of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, purchased two immovable assets without "proper approval" from West Bengal government authorities. The federal agency alleged in a statement that it has "found" documents related to about half-a-dozen houses, flats and a farmhouse owned by the doctor couple during searches conducted against them and their "close relatives" on September 6 at seven locations in Kolkata.

Pakistan violates ceasefire along border in Jammu, BSF trooper injured

 One BSF personnel sustained injuries when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian posts in violation of a ceasefire agreement along the border here on Wednesday, a spokesperson of the border guarding force said. At about 2.35 am, an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border happened and which was befittingly responded by the BSF.
