NDRF team rescues 26 villagers stranded in flood waters in Jharkhand's Garhwa

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Monday rescued 26 villagers stranded in flood waters in Jharkhand's Garhwa district, officials said. Twenty-six persons of six families were stranded in flood waters of Sone river near Hariharpur police outpost since Sunday evening. "The NDRF team rescued 26 persons trapped in floods in Sone river near Hariharpur this morning around 7.30 am. As soon as information reached us, we sent an NDRF rescue team and they were evacuated," Garhwa Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Pandey said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today brought two accused arrested in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast to the spot for inspection as part of its investigation into the incident that occurred on March 1, police sources said. During the course of its investigation into the Cafe blast, the NIA has conducted extensive searches at more than 29 locations across the country. "A team of NIA probing the Rameshwaram Cafe blast came here this morning at the Cafe for spot inspection along with two of the accused as part of their internal investigation into the case," a police source said.

Delhi registers minimum temperature of 26 degress Celsius, light rain likely during day

Delhiites woke up to a humid morning on Monday with the minimum temperature settling at 26 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The relative humidity was recorded at 82 per cent at 8:30 am.

Bihar: Nine Kanwariyas electrocuted to death, two injured

At least nine Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were electrocuted to death and two others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in came in contact with a high-tension overhead wire in Bihar's Vaishali district, a senior official said on Monday. The incident took place in Sultanpur village in Industrial police station area around 11.15 pm on Sunday.

Article 370 abrogation anniversary: Security stepped up in J-K

The security grid in Jammu and Kashmir has been put on an alert in view of the fifth anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, with all security forces instructed to avoid movement of convoys on Monday. In a message to all security agencies, police have advised them to observe a "dry day" with no movement of security convoys on August 5. The advisory also said there should be no movement of convoys of Amarnath pilgrims between various base camps.

Army opens fire on suspected infiltrators along LoC in J-K, search operations underway

Army troops opened fire after noticing the movement of two groups of infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor and Sunderbani sectors of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Monday, officials said. Though there was no exchange of fire, a massive search operation is underway in both areas to ensure that there is no infiltration from across the border, they said.

Over 2,500 people, including 599 children and six pregnant women, whose lives have been shattered by deadly landslides, are staying in various relief camps in Kerala's Wayanad, according to authorities on Monday. According to the latest official figures released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), a total of 16 rescue camps are there in Meppadi and other village panchayats in the hill district where the landslide-hit people are staying.
