Heavy rains likely in West Bengal till Oct 5

A low-pressure area over Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh is likely to cause heavy rains in several districts of West Bengal till October 5, the IMD said on Monday.
 
Light to moderate rain with thunder is very likely to occur at most places over the state, it said.
 
Heavy rain is likely in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur till October 4, besides Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
 
Heavy rain is also likely in Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts on October 5, it said.

Gifts, mementos given to PM Modi to be auctioned at NGMA

 A wide range of gifts and mementos given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the recent past have been displayed as part of an exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Arts.
 
All gifts will be auctioned at the exhibition, which began on Monday.

5 labourers crushed to death by truck in Maharashtra's Buldhana district

Five labourers were killed and as many others injured after being run over by a truck on a highway in Maharashtra's Buldhana district on Monday, police said. The accident took place at around 5.30 am when the labourers were sleeping in makeshift huts along the side of a service road being constructed in Wadner Bholji village of the district, a senior police official told PTI.

China's next lunar mission to carry payload from Pakistan

China's next lunar mission scheduled for 2024 will also carry a payload from Pakistan, the country's space agency has said, as the two all-weather friends step up their cooperation in the space sector.
 
The Chang'e-6 lunar mission is currently undergoing research and development work as planned, state-run news agency Xinhua reported on Friday quoting China National Space Administration (CNSA).
 
The Chang'e-6 mission, with the launch scheduled for around 2024, is tasked with bringing back samples from the far side of the moon. To date, all 10 lunar sampling missions conducted by humans have taken place on the near side of the moon, The Global Times newspaper reported.
 
The far side is generally older and contains the Aitken Basin, one of the three major lunar landforms, making it of significant scientific value, the report said, quoting CNSA.

As Jammu and Kashmir achieved 100 per cent Open Defecation-Free (ODF) status, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the state has attained new heights in development and growth after the abrogation of Article 370 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah took to 'X', formerly Twitter, to share his feelings as Jammu and Kashmir have achieved 100 per cent ODF Plus model status in yet another remarkable accomplishment achieved during the ongoing 'Swachhata Hi Seva' Campaign.

"Heartiest congratulations to the people of J & K for achieving 100 per cent ODF Plus status. After the abrogation of Article 370 under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the J & K has attained new heights in development and growth," Shah posted on 'X'

WhatsApp bans 7.4 mn accounts in August, keeping in line with IT rules

Meta-owned WhatsApp banned 74 lakh accounts in August, keeping in line with IT rules, according to the latest India monthly report by the messaging platform.

Of these, 35 lakh accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users.

The 'user-safety report' contains details of user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp's own preventive actions to combat abuse on the platform.

BJP will take action against corrupt: PM attacks Gehlot govt in Rajasthan   

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attacked the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan over the issue of corruption and women's safety.

Rajasthan top the list when it comes to crime, riots, atrocities against women, Dalits and backward classes, Modi said at a rally in Chittorgarh.

The prime minister said that he feels pain when atrocities against daughters take place anywhere in the country but charged that the Congress has made this a tradition in Rajasthan.

AMU teachers, alumni to stage protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over downslide of varsity

The Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association along with several prominent varsity alumni will hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on October 15 demanding a full time Vice Chancellor and highlighting other irregularities at the institution.

The announcement was made by the Joint Action Committee in a meeting on Saturday.

JAC convenor and former AMU students' union president Azam Baig said that teachers' representatives of all leading central universities and prominent alumni of AMU will participate in the dharna.
