The Eiffel Tower in Paris was closed to the public on Saturday after being evacuated as a precautionary measure following a bomb threat, a French police source said, reports Reuters

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday briefly spent time with the Toda community members in this hilly district in Tamil Nadu, dancing with them and visiting the temple of their deity.

Fresh from a court relief staying his conviction in the Modi surname case, the Wayanad MP was on his way to the constituency in Kerala when he stopped at Muthunadumandu here to interact with the tribal community members.

He was wished by the Toda women that he should return to this place as Prime Minister, even as Lok Sabha elections are slated for next year.

Delhi L-G Saxena approves transplanting 200 trees for development projects

Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has given approval to transplant 96 trees for the construction of a multistorey residential building of the Northern Railway at Arakpur in the Moti Bagh area and 107 trees for a Central Secretariat building at Ashoka Road, Raj Niwas officials said on Saturday.

Not a single tree is being felled for the projects, they said.

In addition to the transplantation, 960 and 1,070 saplings of neem, amaltas, peepal, pilkhan and gular, among others, are being planted in case of the two projects, respectively, they said.

Oppn parties did not allow discussion on Manipur: PM Modi hits out on no-confidence motion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a blistering attack on the opposition parties, accusing them of "running away" from the Lok Sabha during a debate on the no-confidence motion, and said his government has countered the "negativity being spread" by them across the country.

He also accused the opposition of "not being serious" about the discussion on Manipur as "it would have hurt them the most".

PM Modi said an opportunity to find solutions through debates in Parliament could not be utilised as the opposition parties "prioritised their politics over people's welfare".

Delhi Police issues traffic advisory for I-Day dress rehearsal on Sunday

The Delhi Traffic Police on Saturday issued an advisory for the full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day function on August 13 to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.

Eight roads -- Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S.P Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover -- will be closed for the general public from 4 am to 11 am on Sunday, according to the advisory.

3 people sustain burns after boiler explodes in hotel in Bengaluru

Three people, including a woman, were scalded when the boiler of a steam-based idli making unit of a hotel exploded here on Saturday, police said.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition is said to be stable.

According to police, the incident occurred in a hotel at Nagarabavi area around noon. The injured have been identified as Aishwarya (19), Ravi Kumar (20) and Karthik (18).

IS claims responsibility for attack that killed 20 Syrian soldiers

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for an ambush in eastern Syria that killed at least 20 government soldiers and wounded others, warning that such attacks will continue.

IS sleeper cells still carry deadly attacks despite their defeat in Syria in 2019. The group once controlled large parts of Syria and Iraq where they declared a caliphate in 2014.

Priyanka Gandhi alleges corruption by MP govt, BJP warns of action

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Madhya Pradesh warned of action against Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over her social media post, in which she accused the saffron party-led government in the state of indulging in corruption. Terming her allegation as false, MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra sought a proof from the Congress leader to support her charge, warning that options were otherwise open before the state government and the BJP for action.

State BJP chief V D Sharma warned of legal action against the Congress leader, accusing her of citing a fake letter in her social media post to level the allegation.
