BJP president J P Nadda on Saturday said if the Congress is in power, there is bound to be corruption and loot and under the saffron party's rule, there will be development.

Addressing an election rally in Jodhpur's Pipad, Nadda said the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government has ensured that Rajasthan occupies the number one position in the country in terms of corruption and crime against women.

He said justice with farmers and women will be done when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms its government in the desert state.

Pitching his Assembly poll contest with Congress leader Sachin Pilot as a "local-versus-outsider" battle, BJP's Tonk candidate Ajit Singh Mehta cites Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's "post is not leaving him" remark to claim that Pilot does not have the "chief ministerial face advantage" that he had in 2018. Mehta, who was an MLA from this constituency from 2013 to 2018, has been handed the tough assignment by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take on former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Pilot, who won from here over his BJP rival Yoonus Khan in 2018 by a record margin of more than 54,000 votes.

TN Assembly re-adopts 10 bills returned by Governor Ravi

The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Saturday re-adopted 10 Bills returned by State Governor RN Ravi recently.

The bills, covering different departments including Law, Agriculture and Higher Education, was passed by the House during a special sitting, convened in the wake of Ravi returning them on November 13.

Main opposition AIADMK and the BJP separately walked out.

Earlier, Chief Minister M K Stalin moved a resolution to take up for reconsideration, the 10 bills passed earlier by the House and returned by Ravi.

Without giving any reasons, Ravi had returned the Bills, mentioning "I withhold Assent" to them, Stalin said.

Women's votes key factor in MP polls, says Fadnavis

Women's votes will be the deciding factor in the just-concluded Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls and they showed tremendous enthusiasm towards the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, said Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday.

Assembly polls to 230 seats in MP took place on Friday, while votes will be counted on December 3.

Interacting with reporters at a programme here, Fadnavis, who addressed several rallies in MP, also said 40 seats will see close fights and this too would be a deciding factor.

Of the 5,60,58,521 voters in MP, 2,87,82,261 are males and 2,71,99,586 are females.

With cyclone Midhili weakening into a deep depression, Tripura and Mizoram, which were battered by heavy rain the previous day, did not experience showers on Saturday, officials said. According to the latest IMD (India Meteorological Department) update, the cyclonic storm, after crossing the Bangladesh coast, has weakened into a deep depression and lay 50 km east-southeast of Tripura's capital Agartala. Skies remained clear in Mizoram, while overcast conditions prevailed in Tripura but neither of the northeastern states received any fresh rain since the early hours of Saturday. No damages have been reported so far.

Pakistan: Lahore tops global pollution ranking with 470 AQI

Pakistan's Lahore on Thursday topped the global pollution ranking with an unhealthy air quality level during the whole day, Dawn reported. The second-largest city in Pakistan continues to suffer from a smog crisis that has affected the health and livelihood of millions of people. According to Swiss air quality technology company, IQAir, Lahore's air quality was the worst in the world, with the air quality index (AQI) at a "hazardous" 470, followed by Delhi at 302 and Karachi at 204.
