Punjab delegation visits Kerala to learn tech to plug revenue leakage
A Punjab government delegation led by Finance and Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema visited Kerala to learn about technological interventions in plugging revenue leakage and raising excise revenue.
The delegation also comprised Financial Commissioner, Taxation, Vikas Partap, and Excise Commissioner Varun Roojam.
Their visit to Kerala also included learning about the supply chain management ERP software and point of sale system being used by the Kerala Excise department, said an official release.

In a special late-night hearing, a bench of Justices B R Gavai, A S Bopanna and Dipankar Datta questioned the denial of time to Setalvad to appeal against the HC order, saying even an ordinary criminal is entitled to some form of interim relief.
The three-judge bench heard the matter in a special sitting after a two-judge vacation bench differed on granting interim protection from arrest to Setalvad.
Aaditya Thackeray's core team member Rahul Kanal joins Shinde-led Shiv Sena
In a setback to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, his close aide Rahul Kanal on Saturday joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and demanded a detailed probe into the Disha Salian death case.
Kanal, who was raided by the Income Tax department last year, was part of the core committee of Aaditya Thackeray-led Yuva Sena.
He joined Shiv Sena in the presence of Shinde, his son and MP Shrikant Shinde, and party MLAs.
AP govt selling tomatoes at Rs 50/kg through 103 Rythu Bazars to provide relief to people
The Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday said its agriculture marketing department is selling tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg at 103 Rythu Bazars located across the state to provide relief to consumers.
"In response to the soaring prices of tomatoes, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has taken proactive steps to make this essential vegetable accessible and affordable for its citizens," the state government said in a statement.
With prices reaching an alarming price of Rs 100 per kg, the Agricultural Marketing Department has initiated the sale of tomatoes at Rs 50 per kg in 103 Rythu Bazars across the state.
2 die in compressor blast at illegally-run plastic moulding factory in Delhi
Two persons died on Saturday after a compressor exploded in an air compressor tank at an illegally-run plastic moulding factory in northeast Delhi's Gokalpuri area, police said.
A PCR call was received at 3.30 pm regarding the blast. It was reported that three persons were injured in the explosion and two of them were shifted to a hospital, they said.
PCR, local police and staff from the fire department immediately reached the spot. They found out that a plastic moulding factory was being run from the house, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.
BJP suspends 'Aakrosh Andolan' against BMC in wake of Buldhana bus tragedy
In light of the deadly bus accident on the Samruddhi Expressway that claimed the lives of 25 people, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Saturday suspended its "Aakrosh Andolan" to protest against the alleged corruption in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Taking to Twitter, the BJP's Mumbai unit president Ashish Shelar expressed grief at the loss of lives in the expressway accident.
We have decided to suspend the BJP-Shiv Sena-RPI protest against those who looted Mumbai for 25 years. However, we will continue to ask them questions, Shelar tweeted in an apparent reference to the Thackerays.
Delhi Cong prez seeks time with CM Kejriwal to discuss power tarrif hike
Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary has written a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and sought time to discuss the issue of hike in power tariff in the national capital.
"A delegation of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee would like to meet you to apprise you of the concerns of Delhiites, who are troubled by the increase in electricity bills by your government in Delhi," the letter read.
"We hope that considering the seriousness of the situation, you will meet the delegation of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (on Sunday or Monday)," it added.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday warned India's "neighbour" that if anyone tried to harm the country, a befitting reply will be given.
He was speaking at a rally in Chhattisgarh's tribal-dominated Kanker district.
India has emerged as a powerful country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and it is not weak anymore, he said.
"I want to tell our neighbour, if anyone tries to cast evil eye on us, a befitting reply will be given," the minister added.
Meeting 780 MT production target, supply to power sector top priority in FY24: Coal India Chairman
Coal India Ltd (CIL) will work on priority to meet the 780 MT production target for FY24, its new Chairman PM Prasad said on Saturday.
Prasad took charge as the Chairman of the mining giant on July 1. He succeeds Pramod Agrawal, who superannuated on June 30, 2023.
"Underlining his priority, the chairman said CIL would achieve the 780 million tonne (MT) output target of FY2024 with all efforts and means available at its disposal," a Coal India statement said.
Punjab govt to buy private thermal power plant: CM Mann
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said the state government will buy a private thermal power plant in the state.
The details will be shared soon, Mann added.
The chief minister shared the information about the purchase of a coal-fired thermal power plant on his Twitter handle.
"Sharing good news with PunjabisPunjab government is buying a private thermal plant in Punjab...details soon," Mann said in a roughly translated tweet in Punjabi.
3 killed, 17 wounded in Ukraine from Russian attacks, as Spain highlights European support for Kyiv
Ukrainian officials on Saturday morning reported more civilian casualties from Russian shelling in the country's east and south, as a visit by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Snchez began in Kyiv as a show of continuing support from Madrid and the European Union for Ukraine's fight to dislodge invading Russian forces from its territory.
In an address to Ukraine's parliament that received several standing ovations, Snchez said, We'll be with you as long as it takes.

Demonstrations held in Manipur demanding peaceful resolution to crisis
People on Saturday staged demonstrations at several places in Manipur's Imphal Valley demanding implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and peaceful resolution to the crisis.
In Imphal East district's Khurai, a large number of women staged a sit-in to denounce any attempt to impose President's Rule in the state and affirmed their support to Chief Minister Biren N Singh.
In Jiribam district bordering Assam's Cachar district, women took out a rally urging the chief minister and MLAs not to resign as it would tantamount to surrendering before the militants.
Boat service between Sri Lanka, India to be delayed further: Lanka Minister
The much-anticipated passenger boat service between India and Sri Lanka will be further delayed after New Delhi changed the port chosen for the boat service, a senior minister said here on Saturday.
The boast service was to begin in April.
Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva said the commencement of passenger boat service between India and Sri Lanka will be delayed, Newsfirst Lanka reported.
The minister said that India has changed the port it had chosen for the boat service.
HDFC Bank starts rebranding HDFC Ltd offices, branches after merger
HDFC Bank started rebranding offices of erstwhile HDFC Ltd with its colours on Saturday, on the first day of operations as a merged entity.
Branding at all over the 500 offices and branches of the home loan major started getting the HDFC Bank look from Saturday morning onwards, officials said.
The entire exercise of changing the look at HDFC Ltd's offices and branches is slated to take about 24 hours, they said, adding that HDFC Ltd's corporate headquarters at Ramon House is among the places where the branding has already been changed.
GST collections rise by 12% to over Rs 1.61 trn in June: Finance Ministry
GST collections rose 12 per cent to over Rs 1.61 lakh crore in June, the Finance Ministry said on Saturday.
The gross GST collection has crossed Rs 1.60 lakh crore mark for the fourth time since the roll-out of the indirect tax regime six years ago on July 1, 2017.
The average monthly gross GST collection for the first (April-June) quarter of the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 are Rs 1.10 lakh crore, Rs 1.51 lakh crore and Rs 1.69 lakh crore, respectively, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
