Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Y Naik took the oath in Sanskrit. Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy took the oath in Kannada, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Odia, Ports and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Assamese, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu and Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy in Telugu and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi in Kannada.

INDIA bloc's MPs raise call to 'save Constitution'

INDIA bloc MPs on Monday gathered in the Parliament complex in a show of strength on the first day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, holding copies of the Constitution and raising slogans on "saving democracy". Opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party leader Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress' Sudip Bandyopadhyay, DMK's TR Baalu, among others assembled at the spot where the Gandhi statue once stood in the Parliament complex.

Congress chief Kharge slams PM Modi after his pre-session remarks

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge hit back at the NDA government, questioning how long they intend to govern by constantly bringing up the emergency. “He will repeat this 100 times. Without declaring an emergency, you are acting this way. How long do you plan to rule by bringing this up?” Kharge said. "PM Modi made a longer than usual customary address today. Clearly, even after moral and political defeat, the arrogance remains! The nation was hoping that Modi ji would say something on many important issues," Kharge stated.

"The attack that the PM and Amit Shah are launching on the Constitution is not acceptable to us, we will not let this happen.
