India's GDP reaches $3.75 trillion-mark in 2023, says Finance Ministry
India’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached the $3.75 trillion-mark in 2023, from around $2 trillion in 2014, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s office said in a tweet on Monday. India has moved from tenth to the fifth-largest economy in the world, the tweet added. Highlighting the nine years of reforms under the Narendra Modi-led government, Sitharaman’s office also said: “India is now being called a bright spot in the global economy.” Read more
CoWin data leak on Telegram channel alleged; Centre says portal 'safe'
In a brief but evidently sizeable data breach, the information of hundreds of thousands of Indians who received the Covid vaccine was allegedly leaked on a Telegram channel. According to several reports, crucial information like a person’s phone number registered on the CoWin portal of the Union Ministry of Health, gender, ID card information, and date of birth were leaked on Telegram. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Monday debarred Zee Entertainment Enterprises (Zee) promoter and Essel group Chairman Subhash Chandra and Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Punit Goenka from holding key positions in any listed company for allegedly diverting assets of Essel Group companies. Directorate General of Civil Aviation has relaxed its norms making it easier for Indian carriers to launch new overseas destinations. DGCA assesses the preparedness of Indian airlines before permitting them to fly to a new foreign destination. "In order to further ease the process of granting such permissions, the existing regulatory requirements have been comprehensively reviewed in consultation with all stakeholders and the current 33-point checklist has been rationalised and reduced to a 10-point checklist related to their preparedness for the intended operations," the DGCA said in a statement on Monday.
