ITC demerger
Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) giant ITC shares will remain in focus next week, as the company has fixed January 6, 2025, as the record date for the demerger of its hotel business.
According to an exchange filing, eligible shareholders will receive 1 share of ITC Hotels for every 10 shares held in ITC. Post-demerger, ITC will retain a 40 per cent stake in the hotel business, with the remaining 60 per cent held by ITC shareholders. ITC Hotels is expected to list on stock exchanges in February 2025.
The ex-date is when a stock begins trading without the entitlement to dividends, rights issues, bonus shares, or buyback offers. This means that on or after this date, the dividend, bonus, or buyback payment is not available to a new buyer of the stock. To qualify for these corporate actions, investors must own the stock before the ex-date. The beneficiaries of dividends, bonus shares, or buybacks are determined based on the list of investors recorded by the end of the record date.
