Stock Market LIVE Updates: China will expand a 'white list' of housing projects eligible for financing and increase bank lending for them to 4 trillion yuan ($562 billion), Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong said on Thursday at a press briefing.

Monetisation measures will also be undertaken for urbanisation projects, with a million villages to be included in such plans, Ni said, according to Reuters.

In January, China announced a plan for a 'white list' of projects that can receive financing to ensure that developers could complete construction and deliver homes to buyers. 

As of the end of the third quarter, banks had approved 5,392 such projects, with financing reaching nearly 1.4 trillion yuan.

Approved loans for the 'white list' projects had risen to 2.23 trillion yuan as of Oct. 16, Xiao Yuanqi, deputy director of the State Financial Regulatory Administration, said at the press conference.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Oil prices rose in early Asian trade on Thursday, paring sharp losses over the past two sessions, after industry data showed an unexpected drop in US crude stockpiles last week.

Brent crude futures rose 45 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to $74.67 a barrel by 7:AM, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures were at $70.84 a barrel, up 45 cents, or 0.6 per cent.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Markets in the Asia-Pacific markets were trading higher, tracking gains on Wall Street.

Mainland China's Shanghai Composite was up 0.27 per cent, and the CSI 300 was ahead by 0.5 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up by 1.07 per cent, as the country's housing minister held a press briefing to announce the contours of its recently announced stimulus measures.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.5 per cent, and the broader Topix index remained relatively flat. 

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.84 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi was up 0.12 per cent.
