At least 14 people have died and 12 others were injured when a major fire broke out on Thursday night at a building in Kamala Mills Compound in Lower Parel

The fire started after 12:30 am on the third floor of the building on Senapati Bapat Marg, a commercial hub of the city

More than six fire tenders, four water tankers, emergency ambulance and police rushed to the spot for rescue operation

The building, in Central Mumbai, houses some commercial establishments including hotels

The injured were taken to the KEM, and Sion hospitals, the official from the BMC disaster management unit said

The Mumbai hospital says that nearly all the 14 deaths, which includes 11 women, in Kamala Mills fire incident, had happened due to asphyxiation and a proper exit-plan could have saved those lives

The Mumbai hospital says that all these people were sent to the washroom to save them from flames, but the toxic fumes took away their lives

The blaze was reported from the rooftop restaurant, Mojo Bistro, in the Kamla Trade House and quickly spread to another nearby restaurant

PM Narendra Modi today expressed anguish over the fire incident in a Mumbai building which led to the loss of several lives

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also expressed his grief over the fire and said "it's disturbing to know about the loss of lives in unfortunate Kamala mills fire incident in Mumbai"
