Nabanna Abhijan protests turn violent: Kolkata Police use water cannons, tear gas to stop protesters

Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday clashed with the police in Kolkata during the "Nabanna Abhijan", calling for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the arrest of those involved in the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital. During the ongoing "Nabanna Abhiyan" march to the State Secretariat, organised by the student group Paschimbanga Chattro Samaj, the West Bengal police deployed water cannons and tear gas at Howrah Bridge to disperse the crowds.
