State-owned Punjab and Sind Bank plans to raise Rs 2,000 crore through Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) during the ongoing quarter, a top official of the bank said.
The bank has already appointed merchant bankers and legal advisers for the proposed QIP, Punjab & Sind Bank managing director and CEO Swarup Kumar Saha told PTI.
"With the QIP, the government holding in the bank would come down 3-4 per cent and capital adequacy ratio would rise at the end of March 2025," he said.
The government of India holds 98.25 per cent stake in Punjab & Sind Bank at the end of December 2024, he said.
The government has extended the deadline for meeting minimum public shareholding norms for central public sector enterprises and public sector financial institutions till August 2026.
Out of 12 public sector banks (PSBs), five are yet to comply with minimum public shareholding (MPS) norms and the government's holding is beyond 75 per cent.

Rupee is expected to appreciate a bit and stabilise around 85-86 a dollar in the coming weeks with RBI's continued focus on stability of the domestic currency, Deloitte economist Rumki Majumdar said.
She said that the rupee may not now see the level of 83 despite RBI's intervention and the Indian currency being more stable than others.
The rupee tanked last week to hit its all-time low of 86.70 against the US dollar as massive foreign fund outflows and falling domestic equity markets dented investor sentiment. The rupee on January 13 logged its steepest single-day fall in nearly two years and ended the session 66 paise down at its historic low of 86.70 against the US dollar. The currency's previous record one-day fall of 68 paise was witnessed on February 6, 2023.
The domestic currency has depreciated by over 1 per cent in 2025 so far following a nearly 3 per cent decline in 2024 due to a strong dollar and FII outflows. The rupee closed at 86.60 a dollar on Friday.

The hearing in the defamation case against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was adjourned again due to the continuing strike of lawyers.
Plaintiff Vijay Mishra's counsel Santosh Kumar Pandey said the special MP-MLA judge Shubham Verma set January 30 as the next date of hearing to complete the cross-examination in the case.
Mishra, a local BJP politician, filed a defamation complaint against Gandhi in 2018 in the court alleging that during the Karnataka elections, the Congress leader made an offensive remark about BJP leader Amit Shah which hurt his sentiments.
The case was pending for five years, and when Gandhi failed to appear, the court issued a warrant in December, 2023, summoning him.
While Gandhi surrendered in court in February, 2024, his statement was recorded on July 26, 2024.
The special magistrate granted him bail on two sureties of Rs 25,000 each.
During his appearance in court, Gandhi claimed innocence and said a political conspiracy was being plotted against him.

The remote Badhaal village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district was on Wednesday declared a containment zone and prohibitory orders imposed on all public and private gatherings in the wake of the death of 17 people belonging to three families, officials said.
Another person belonging to the village has been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition, they said.
The containment orders have been imposed under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Section 163 of BNSS gives magistrates the power to issue written orders in urgent situations. These orders can be used to prevent or remedy nuisance or dangers.
According to the order issued by additional district magistrate (Rajouri) Rajeev Kumar Khajuria, the village has been divided into three containment zones  the first covering all families where deaths have occurred.
