The Inland Waterways Development Council (IWDC), apex meet for policy deliberation for the promotion and propagation of inland waterways in India, witnessed major announcements to boost infrastructure along national waterways, a release said on Friday.According to the release, the second meeting of IWDC, organised by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the nodal agency for the development of waterways under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping  &  Waterways (MoPSW), announced investments of more than RS 50,000 crore in the next five years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Sunday that the capabilities of India's young population will power the country's rise to becoming developed.
Addressing the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue here, he said some people may find the goal of India becoming developed difficult but it is not impossible.
No power can stop India from becoming a developed country if the spirit of 'Viksit Bharat' guides its every step, policy and decision, he said, highlighting the strength and numbers of the country's young population.
"Big targets have to be set for a country to march forward... This is what today's India is doing," Modi said, adding that the country is accomplishing numerous goals in different sectors ahead of time.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police which is probing the Torres investment scam has seized Rs 5 crore in cash, deposited by investors, from a Torres jewellery store in Dadar and a flat in the city, an official said on Friday.
The estimate of the total amount involved in the scam stood at Rs 22 crore, he said.
The seizure was made during searches on Thursday.
Some investors had handed cash to the company for making deposits after encountering snags in its online system, the official said.  As much as Rs 77 lakh were recovered from a flat rented by Tania alias Tazagul Karaxanovna Xasatova (52), one of the accused, in Colaba in south Mumbai.
Xasatova worked as a general manager at the Torres store, the official said.  Police also recovered over a thousand 'precious stones'. While the company charged its investors thousands of rupees for these stones, their actual value was around Rs 300 apiece, he said. Aircraft battling fires raging through the Los Angeles area are dropping more than water -- hundreds of thousands of gallons of hot-pink fire suppressant ahead of the flames in a desperate effort to stop them before they destroy more neighbourhoods.
The fires have killed at least 24 people, displaced thousands and destroyed more than 12,000 structures since they began last Tuesday. Four fires driven by strong Santa Ana winds have charred about 160 square kilometres, according to Cal Fire.
