Travel booking major OYO has launched a new check-in policy for partner hotels, starting from Meerut, introducing guidelines effective this year whereby unmarried couples will no longer be welcome to check in.
Under the revised policy, all couples will be asked to present valid proof of relationship at the time of check-in, including for bookings made online. OYO has empowered its partner hotels' discretion to decline couple bookings based on their judgment, aligning with local social sensibility, the company said.
OYO has given the directive to its partner hotels in Meerut to ensure this with immediate effect. Based on ground feedback, the company may expand this to more cities, people familiar with the policy change said.
"OYO has received feedback in the past from civil society groups especially in Meerut urging action to address this issue. Additionally, residents from few other cities have petitioned for disallowing unmarried couples to check-in at OYO hotels," they said.

V2 Retail on Thursday reported a 58.1 per cent increase in standalone revenue from operations to Rs 591.03 crore for the December quarter.
The value retailer reported revenue from operations of Rs 373.76 crore in the October-December quarter a year ago, V2 Retail told the BSE in a regulatory filing.
"Standalone revenue from operations for the quarter ended (QE) December 31, 2024 stood at Rs 591.03 crore registering a 58 per cent YoY growth," V2 Retail said while sharing the quarter-end update.
The total number of stores as of December 2024 stood at 160, with 21 new openings during the quarter.
"V2 Retail continues its strategic expansion into key markets, bringing the total retail area to 17.22 lakh sq ft," it said.
The Ram Chandra Agarwal-promoted company has achieved same store sales growth of 25 per cent in Q3, FY25 as compared to Q3, FY24, helped by a "strong consumer demand and operational efficiency", it added.

There are no reported cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Andhra Pradesh, a health official said on Sunday, assuring the public that there is no need to panic about the virus.
Public Health and Family Welfare Director K Padmavathi stated that the virus spreads from person to person, similar to Covid-19, primarily affecting children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immunity.
"There are no HMPV cases in Andhra Pradesh. The virus, detected in China, does not warrant any panic," Padmavathi said in an official press release.
According to the director, individuals in close contact with HMPV-infected persons are at risk of contracting the virus.
She added that it can also spread through coughing, sneezing, touch, and handshakes with infected individuals.
Similarly, Padmavathi noted that the disease can spread through utensils used by infected individuals.
The symptoms of the disease typically appear 3 to 10 days after infection and include flu-like signs such as cough, .
