Travel booking major OYO has launched a new check-in policy for partner hotels, starting from Meerut, introducing guidelines effective this year whereby unmarried couples will no longer be welcome to check in.
Under the revised policy, all couples will be asked to present valid proof of relationship at the time of check-in, including for bookings made online. OYO has empowered its partner hotels' discretion to decline couple bookings based on their judgment, aligning with local social sensibility, the company said.
OYO has given the directive to its partner hotels in Meerut to ensure this with immediate effect. Based on ground feedback, the company may expand this to more cities, people familiar with the policy change said.
"OYO has received feedback in the past from civil society groups especially in Meerut urging action to address this issue. Additionally, residents from few other cities have petitioned for disallowing unmarried couples to check-in at OYO hotels," they said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused the Border Security Force of facilitating infiltration from Bangladesh as part of a central government "blueprint" to destabilize the state, a charge the BSF denied, asserting it diligently guards the country's boundary.
Speaking at an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat, Banerjee alleged that the BSF was allowing infiltrators to enter through areas like Islampur, Sitai, and Chopra.
"We have information that the BSF is letting infiltrators enter India through various border areas. This is a deliberate attempt to destabilize the state. There is a deep-rooted conspiracy involving the central government," she said.
Banerjee said she could sense a "blueprint of the Centre" behind this attitude of the BSF.
"Goons are entering India. I want peace on both sides of the border. We have a good relationship with neighbouring Bangladesh," she said.

The government on Thursday said that 151 steel standards formulated by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) have been incorporated in the  Quality Control Order (QCO) so far.
This exercise is continuing towards the goal of formulating standards for all the steel consumed in the country.
The import of steel consignment is also subjected to scrutiny to check supply of any substandard steel consignment, the steel ministry said in a statement.
The government has been taking several steps from time to time to ensure quality in steel production.
Measures have been taken to formulate standards, for the steel consumed in the country and incorporate them in the Quality Control Order (QCO). Standardization involves setting up of uniform specifications, testing methods, and manufacturing processes for steel production.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that the BJP is the only national party that is not owned by any family but by its workers.
Speaking at a party event, Fadnavis called BJP a democratic organisation. There are more than 2,300 registered parties in the country but those that are national parties can be counted on fingertips, he said.
There are only two parties  the BJP and the Communist Party of India  that are not owned by any family, he said.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday urged the country's youth to "stay vigilant" against "anti-national forces", saying it alone will secure India's democratic values.

With Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy accusing his government of corruption and ministers of extracting commission, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday challenged the JD(S) leader to prove his allegations with evidence.
He said allegations should not be made without documents and proof.
