Senior team vice-captain KL Rahul, his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, one down batter Devdutt Padikkal are among 11 Test players picked in the 15-member India A squad that will play three unofficial Tests against New Zealand A starting October 24.
However, the short BCCI press release didn't clarify how many of the three 'Tests' would the likes of Rahul, Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, who are also part of the Indian ODI set-up, play in New Zealand.
The first 'Test' will be played from October 24 to 28 in Lincoln followed by the second game in Christchurch starting October 31-November 3. The last 'Test', again in Lincoln, will be held from November 7-10.
Now the first three ODI matches against New Zealand will be held on November 4, 7 and 10. So it is nearly impossible for Rahul, Washington and Jaiswal to be available for all the 'A' Tests.
The squad also features Rishabh Pant, whose participation is subject to fitness, along with his Test understudy Dhruv Jurel, reserve opener Sai

Shreyas Iyer overcame fatigue and jet lag to score his maiden T20I hundred and said he did not want to use the travel exertions as an excuse, terming his match-winning knock that gave India a dominant eight-wicket win over West Indies a dream come true.
Iyer and his teammates had returned from Japan following their Asian Games gold-medal triumph ahead of the five-match T20I series against West Indies, but the long travel did little to affect their performance in the opening game.
"After the exhausting travel, didn't realise where I was. Everyday I need to wake up like this! Bowling first helped us a lot. We just didn't look at jetlag as an excuse.
"We saw the excitement of India vs West Indies in the ODIs and how amazing that was. It was important to stick to the process. Exultant! Was thinking about my first century and dreams do come true."

India head coach Khalid Jamil on Tuesday took full responsibility for his side's heavy 1-6 defeat to Uruguay, refusing to blame the 34-minute weather interruption or his players' concentration lapse as they ended their FIFA international window with two defeats and a draw.
Anirudh Thapa briefly lifted the mood with a 22nd-minute equaliser, but two-time former world champions Uruguay ran riot with half a dozen goals to complete a comprehensive victory.
Jamil, who saw his side concede 10 goals in their last two matches against Brazil and Uruguay, was quick to accept full responsibility.
"I fully blame myself. We should not give any excuse. I am not blaming anyone, but I made many mistakes. We have to rectify those mistakes," Jamil said at the post-match interaction.
Asked to elaborate on those mistakes, Jamil said he needed time to assess the matches before reaching conclusions.
"Yes, many mistakes. You can say both. But now this is not the right time to say anything. I have to thi

The hard-fought win over arch-rivals Pakistan in the semifinal pumped the Indian men's hockey team in their dominant victory over Malaysia in the summit clash to clinch the Asian Games gold and book the 2028 Olympics berth, said head coach Craig Fulton here on Saturday.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh rose to the occasion with a brace as India thrashed Malaysia 5-1 to win the men's hockey gold for the second time in a row.
"We played a great game. We almost needed that semifinal (win) to get into this mindset," Fulton said after the summit calsh.
The nimble-footed Malaysians, who have always been a tricky opponent, created problems for India for stretches of the first half. India, however, played much better in the second half to impose themselves in the contest.
"I'm proud of the boys because on the first half's performance from Malaysia, they did really well. We stuck to our guns but they scored a world-class goal. Coming in 2-1, it was tight. And then our third quarter was immense and

Abhay Singh returned from the Asian Games with two medals but little satisfaction, with the Indian squash player particularly disappointed by the men's team's bronze, which he felt was a missed opportunity to defend their gold from the last edition.
There were no garlands, no bands and no loud celebrations as Abhay made a quiet exit from the airport, his subdued mood reflecting his disappointment despite winning silver in the men's individual event.
"I think the result in the individual event was understandable considering the strength of the opponent. However, I am quite disappointed with the team event result," Abhay told PTI.
"I genuinely believe we had the depth and quality to win the gold medal, but that is not how sports work. Hopefully, we can come back stronger and do one better next time."
The 28-year-old became only the second Indian man to win an individual squash medal at the Asian Games after Saurav Ghosal.

Wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson asserted India did not get the Asian Games gold 'on a platter', and said fielding experienced A-list players helped the team manage the pressures of a high-octane final against Pakistan.
India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs to defend their men's cricket gold at the continental showpiece here on Saturday.
"We had a very experienced team. That's where the experience of experienced players comes in. We knew how to manage our energy, how to keep ourselves motivated and focused even when practices were not happening and matches were not happening," Samson said after the match.
India's decision to bring their regular T20 contingent ensured they had the firepower and composure to handle the occasion.
"Bringing the 'A' team really helped, and that's what happened against Pakistan in the final. I think it was a proper game for everyone," he added.

Punjab FC went down narrowly 3-4 on penalties to defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant to end their campaign at IFA Shield here on Sunday.
The Shers stayed competitive throughout 120 minutes and came close to finding the breakthrough on several occasions before Mohun Bagan prevailed in the shootout. The defending champions will face the winner of the second semifinal between East Bengal FC and NorthEast United FC in the final.
Punjab FC were tested by an intense Mohun Bagan press in the opening stages but remained compact and organised. The first chance came in the third minute when Lallianzuala Chhangte's effort took a slight deflection, but Arshdeep Singh kept his composure to collect.
Mohun Bagan threatened again five minutes later when Asish Rai reached an aerial through ball and set up Lee Erwin with a first-time pass after Arshdeep rushed off his line. The Punjab FC defence recovered quickly to block Erwin's effort and clear the danger. Erwin then tested Arshdeep from a

Brazilian head coach Carlo Ancelotti was impressed by India's "organised" defense and counter-attacking approach but said his team found it "easier" to control the game after breaking the deadlock in its 4-0 win in the historic football friendly here on Saturday.
Playing under muggy conditions with a rejigged side, the five-time world champions had to navigate some anxious moments in the first 27 minutes before Estevao (28th), Pedro (42nd) and Samuel Lino (58th, 90+5) secured a comfortable win over world No. 138 India.
"They defended, they were organised, they tried to play counter-attack. I think they played a good game," Ancelotti said of India in the post-match interaction.
The Italian great felt the opening goal changed the complexion of the contest.
