The Indian Paralympic contingent is enjoyed a successful outing at the 2024 Paris Paralympics on Monday, September 2, as the team has won 15 medals so far in the Games, including three gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals. The higlights of the day was Sumit Antil defending his Paralympics gold medal successfully in Paris and Nitesh Kumar winning his first Paralympics gold in para-badminton.

- Event: Men’s singles SL3 (Para-badminton)
- Medal: Gold
Nitesh Kumar defeated Daniel Bethell in the men’s singles SL3 event gold medal match by 21-14, 18-21 and 22-21 to secure India's second gold and ninth overall medal at the 2024 Paris paralympics. Earlier, he defeated Daisuke Fujihara of Japan in the semifinals to sucure his place the gold medal match. Nitesh, who lost his left foot after falling out of a moving train in 2009, has won four medals in the Asian Para Games and three medals in the World Championships before adding a Paralympics gold medal to his accolades list in Paris.
Thulasimathi Murugesan
- Event: Women’s singles SU5 (Para-badminton)
- Medal: Silver
Thulasimathi Murugesan, who defeated Manisha Ramadass in an all-Indian semifinal in the women’s singles SU5 event, secured a silver medal on onday after losing her gold medal match against Qiu Xia Yang of China by 21-17, 21-10. Top-seeded Thulasimathi secured her first Paralymics medal in Paris. Born with a congenital deformity in her left hand, Thulasimathi won three medals in the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.

Suhas Yathiraj secured his second consecutive Paralympics silver medal after losing his gold medal match against Lucas Mazur of France in the men’s singles SL4 event 21-9 and 21-13. The 2020 Tokyo Paralympics silver medallist defended his medal of same colour he won three years ago. The 41-year-old, apart from being a para-athlete, is also an IAS officer of the 2007 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He has secured gold medals in the Asian Para Games, World Championships, and Asian Championships and now has two Paralympic silver medals in his name.

- Medal: Gold
India’s flag bearer for the 2024 Paris Paralympics and defending gold medallist Sumit Antil, was able to retain his gold medal in in the men’s javelin F64 event after creating another Paralympics record on Monday. Sumit broke his own record of 68.55m he set in Tokyo twice in Paris. He first throw was of 69.11m while his second and best throw of the night was of 70.59 m. He broke the Tokyo recored once again in his fifth throw which was of 69.04m. Sumit is now the only India along with Avani Lekhara who were able to defend thier Tokyo paralympics gold medals in Paris.

Manisha Ramdass who lost the all Indian semifinals match against the evntual silver medalist Thulasimathi Murugesan, defeated Cathrine Rosengren of Denmark by 21-12, 21-8 in the bronze medal to make the women's singles SU5 event a double success for India. The 2022 Femal Para Badminton player of the year was able to secure the first game in just 13 minutes. In the second game Cathrine got herself an early lead of 3-0 in second game, but Manisha came back strong and was able to secure 21 points from that points onwrads while Catherine was only able to add five ending game two 21-8 and the match 2-0 in favour of the Indian.

Nithya was the second Indian female para-shuttler who secured a bronze medal in Paris on Monday. The 19-year-old Indian defeated Rina Marlina of Indonesia 21-14 21-6 in the bronze medal match to secure her first ever Paralympics medal. Nithya started following badminton after 2016 Paralympics and made her debut at just 16 years of age in 2020. The yound Indian showed incredible development in short period of time leading her all the way to a podium finish in 2024 Paris Parlaympics and will now be one the brightest prospect in the sport going forward.

India's third bronze of the day came from para-archery, when the suo of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar won thier bronze medal match against Eleonara Sarti and Matteo Bonacina of Italy by 156-155. Both Rakesh and Sheetal were not able to capture medals in singles event despite a good start but they compensated big time by securing India's first para-archery medal in Paris. Sheetal, who was born with a rare medical condition called phocomelia left her with under-developed arms. Howver, she shocked her cach when she showed that she shoot arrows accuratly using her legs making the medal even more special for all the fans of sports globally.
