Delhi court frames murder charges against Tytler in 1984 anti-Sikh riots

Forty years after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, a Delhi court on Friday framed charges for murder and other offences against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the killing of three people in north Delhi's Pul Bangash area. Special Judge Rakesh Siyal directed that Tytler face trial after he pleaded not guilty to the offences. Besides murder, the court ordered framing of charges for several other offences, including unlawful assembly, rioting, promoting enmity between different groups, house trespass and theft. The judge had on August 30 said there was sufficient ground to proceed against the accused. The CBI had on May 20, 2023 filed a charge sheet against Tytler in the case. Tytler "incited, instigated and provoked the mob assembled at Pul Bangash Gurudwara Azad Market" on November 1, 1984 that resulted in burning down of the gurudwara and killing of three Sikhs -- Thakur Singh, Badal Singh and Gurcharan Singh -- the CBI alleged in its charge sheet. Sajjan Kumar charged with murder, rioting in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case

A Delhi court has announced charges against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.The case pertains to the murder of two Sikhs in Raj Nagar, Delhi-- Sardar Jaswant Singh and Sardar Tarun Deep Singh.Advocate Harpreet Singh Hora informed that the court has announced charges under the offences of rioting, murder and dacoity under sections 147, 149, 148, 302, 308, 323, 395, 397, 427, 436, 440 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Sajjan Kumar.The case was registered as FIR 458/91 at Police Station Saraswati Vihar, Delhi where the eye-witness had claimed that the eye-witness has identified Sajjan Kumar when the eye-witness saw a photograph of him.He informed that the case was previously closed as untraced in 1994 and the SIT had opened it again.The court has heard arguments from both sides and now the matter is listed on December 16 for formal framing of charges.Additional Sessions Judge MK Nagpal while passing the order said, "This court is of the considered opinion
