Telecom major Reliance Jio and Chinese smartphone company OnePlus have joined hands to set up a 5G innovation lab in India. "The alliance between OnePlus and Jio aims to provide OnePlus and Jio True 5G users differentiated features and an unparalleled network experience. "To bolster these initiatives, both brands are excited to announce the establishment of a state-of-the-art 5G Innovation Lab," OnePlus said in a statement on Thursday. Nokia on Thursday reported a double-digit decline in sales and a fall in profit in the last three months of 2023, with the wireless and fixed-network equipment maker saying operators are cutting back on investments into 5G and other technology because of economic uncertainty. Telecom infrastructure major Indus Towers posted a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 1,541 crore in the December quarter, the company said on Tuesday. The company had posted a loss of Rs 708 crore in the year-ago period. The company's consolidated revenue grew 6 per cent in the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal to Rs 7,199 crore from Rs 6,765 crore a year ago. "Our third consecutive quarter of record tower additions demonstrated our robust operational performance. HFCL Ltd (HFCL) on Monday said it has secured a Rs 1,127 crore order from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) aimed at transforming the Optical Transport Network (OTN) infrastructure across the state-owned telco's pan India network. HFCL's comprehensive network upgrade will not only cater to the requirements of enterprise and FTTH/broadband services but also position BSNL for the future with the seamless launch of 4G services and the anticipation of 5G services in the coming years. The Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) is planning to train and place over 1.5 lakh candidates in telecom and related emerging technologies in the next financial year to reduce the demand-supply workforce gap. The increasing convergence of telecom with the technology sector and especially the launch of 5G has resulted in a higher demand for skilled/unskilled/reskilled workforce in the industry. State-run C-DoT is expecting to deploy indigenously developed 5G telecom gears in the BSNL network in the next 6-8 months, a senior company official said.
