IndiGo, GoAir induct eight A320 Neo aircrafts after Airbus resumes delivery

Budget carriers IndiGo and GoAir have together inducted eight Airbus A320 Neo planes in their fleet since the resumption of deliveries, which was halted due to the Pratt & Whitney engine issues, according to a source. Both IndiGo and GoAir have taken deliveries of four aircraft each between May and June, the source said. The deliveries of the P&W engine-powered A320 Neos were put on hold in March by Airbus and the engine maker following a safety directive from European aviation safety agency EASA in the wake of instances of the engine's in-flight shut-downs and rejected take-offs. Airbus had resumed deliveries of these planes in May. GoAir and IndiGo both have taken deliveries of four A320 Neos each in the last two month, with the former inducting three aircraft in May and one in June, while the latter taking delivery of one plane in May and the other three in June, according to the source. Don't follow intl norms blindly, use mind: Bombay HC on A320neo grounding

The Bombay High Court today said that the?Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) must not "blindly" follow international guidelines on air safety but must use its own "independent mind" to ensure the safety of passengers. A bench of Justices Naresh Patil and GS Kulkarni also asked the DGCA to take appropriate steps to ensure that the modified engines in the affected aircraft belonging to Indigo Airlines and Go Air met with requisite safety standards. The bench was hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by a city resident, Harish Agarwal, seeking appropriate directions to the civil aviation authorities over the recent reports of?certain 'Pratt & Whitney engines', that power A320neo planes, being more susceptible to engine failures. The directions came after the Union government, through its counsel, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, told the bench that it was satisfied with all efforts made by the DGCA on the issue. Singh filed an affidavit in court ..

Pratt engine issue delays Airbus plane deliveries to IndiGo, GoAir

The delivery schedule of A320 neo planes of IndiGo and GoAir has got impacted due to bearing seal plate wearing and combustion chamber distress issues in the Pratt & Whitney engines of such aircraft that have already been delivered, the government said today. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha also said that Air India has experienced delay in deliveries of some A320 neo aircraft fitted with CFM Leap engines by few days due to non- availability of engines at the Airbus facility. While budget carriers IndiGo and GoAir have opted for PW engine-powered A320 neo (new engine option) planes, national carrier Air India has chosen the Leap IA26 engines from CFM. Vistara, a Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture, is also one of the A320 neo operators. It has selected CFM International's advanced LEAP-1A engine for the aircraft. The delivery of A320 neo planes to Indian airlines started in the first quarter of 2016. "Subsequently, ...
