The Election Commission has informed that linking of Aadhar with EPIC has not yet started," he said. He also noted that the time period to submit Form 6B (to link Aadhaar card) has been extended for a period of one year -- March 31, 2024. The Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021 allows electoral registration officers to require the existing or prospective elector to provide the Aadhaar number for the purpose of establishing identity on a "voluntary basis", he said.

International credit agency Moody's Investors Service has made sweeping assertions against Aadhaar without citing any evidence, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said on Monday. The Union government in January this year made the use of Aadhaar-based payment system (ABPS) mandatory for paying wages to those enrolled under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The initial deadline for the mandatory adoption of ABPS mode was February 1, which was later extended to March 31, then till June 30, and eventually till August 31. The CBI has alleged that 11 Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) members were targeted through 39 fake claims and Rs 1.83 crore was siphoned off. The agency registered a case on February 8, 2022, against seven establishments and unidentified individuals on a complaint from the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) related to alleged fraudulent activities involving identity theft aimed at illegally withdrawing funds from the PF accounts of genuine beneficiaries.
