No cooler for Kejriwal in jail despite Delhi's scorching heat, says Atishi

A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at the Tihar jail after completion of his interim bail in a money laundering case, the AAP leaders on Monday alleged that he was not provided cooler in his cell in prison and his weight was measured thrice in a "conspiracy". The Tihar jail authorities refuted the AAP leaders' claim, saying the chief minister's weight was taken with one machine only and added that he was not provided cooler because the facility is provided after the court's order. "The weight of Kejriwal is 63.5 kilogram, which was measured only once when he surrendered on Sunday. There was no problem with the weighing machine. His other vitals, including blood pressure and sugar, are normal," a senior Tihar jail officer told PTI. In a press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi claimed that Kejriwal's weight was measured with three weighing machines during his medical examination in Tihar on Sunday. She also claimed that at a time when .

Swati Maliwal case: HC reserves order on Bibhav Kumar's plea against arrest

The Delhi High Court on Friday reserved order on the issue of maintainability of a plea by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar challenging his arrest in connection with the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the CM's residence earlier this month. The senior counsel, appearing for the police, opposed issuance of notice on the petition on the grounds that it was not maintainable. "Order reserved on maintainability," Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said after hearing the senior lawyers appearing on both the sides. Kumar, in his plea, has sought a direction to declare his arrest as illegal and in gross violation of the provisions of Section 41A (notice of appearance before police officer) of the Code of Criminal Procedure and against the mandate of the law. The Delhi Police's senior lawyer contended that the objection regarding compliance with section 41A has already been rejected by the trial court and the petitioner should, therefore, file a revision against

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has to surrender on June 2 in the excise policy case at the end of his interim bail period, on Wednesday said he is proud going to jail to "save" his country. The AAP convener is out on an interim bail till June 1 following an order of the Supreme Court, which has directed him to surrender on June 2. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. "I am ready to go back to jail again on June 2. And I am proud that I am going to jail to save my country," Kejriwal told PTI Videos here. Attacking the BJP-led Centre, he said, "They (BJP) say Kejriwal indulged in corruption...they don't have even one proof. People are saying if Kejriwal is corrupt, then no one is honest in this world." "They say there has been theft of Rs 100 crore. They conducted raids at 500 places, they did not get even one paise, did that Rs 100 crore vanish in thin air?" he asked. The Delhi

Incorrect to say Centre not giving funds to Punjab, says FM Sitharaman

It is incorrect to say that the Centre is not giving funds to the Punjab government, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday here, responding to the AAP government's allegation that the Union is shortchanging the state. "The reality is that the Punjab Government is not using money rightfully," she said. Sitharaman was in Ludhiana Tuesday evening to interact with the MSMEs and industrialists. During the interaction, she slammed the AAP government in Punjab and said that it is misleading the people of the state. Her remarks came in response to the Punjab AAP government's claim that the Centre withheld Rs 9,000 crore from the state's share. On another matter, the Finance minister said any changes in the income tax would be incorporated after the formation of the new government. She said she is confident that the industry will invest in Punjab again. She said that according to a study conducted by the MSME promotion council in January 2024, Punjab has witnessed 85

Swati Maliwal assault case: Court sends Bibhav Kumar to 3-day custody

A court here on Tuesday granted three days to Delhi Police for custodial interrogation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar, who has been accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. The court said Delhi Police cannot be "deprived of its right" to recover the mobile phone which he was carrying at the time of the alleged assault at the chief minister's official residence on May 13. "The presence of the accused in a room where NVRs (network video recorders) are installed is not denied by him or his lawyer. To the mind of this court, the reason for remaining there for a sufficient time is obviously a question which needs to be investigated for which custodial interrogation is necessary," Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal said. NVR is a specialised computer that records security video surveillance footage in digital format to a hard drive. Noting Maliwal's specific allegation that Kumar had recorded the incident on his cell phone, the court said, ...
