Centre needs to work on war footing to deal Covishield side effects: AAP

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday said there was need to deal with the "rare side effects" of Covishield vaccine on a war footing and alleged that the central government has done nothing so far in the matter. In a press conference, Bharadwaj said that the Centre should talk to the vaccine manufacturing company, doctors and scientists for devising a mechanism to help people detect "warning signs or symptoms" of any side effects of the vaccine. "This issue should not be politicised but the Centre has been sleeping and it has done nothing so far. This vaccine was banned in many European countries in 2021 when government in our country was administering and promoting it, " he said. Bharadwaj said there were already questions in the minds of the people if the vaccine was in any way linked to the "sudden rise in heart attack cases". There were numerous videos of people suddenly collapsing and dying during workouts and other such normal activities in different parts of

AAP-Cong alliance credit goes to Lovely, says Sanjay; Cong leader hits back

AAP leader Sanjay Singh lauded Arvinder Singh Lovely on Monday for the party's Lok Sabha poll alliance with the Congress, a day after he resigned as the Delhi unit president of the grand old party criticising the tie-up. Responding to the remark's of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Lovely said when the INDIA opposition bloc was formed, he was not the Delhi Congress chief and added that Singh is suffering from "trauma" after coming out of jail. Singh told a press conference here that the credit for his party's Lok Sabha poll alliance with the Congress in the national capital goes to Lovely as well. "I say this with responsibility that Lovely played a crucial role in our alliance with the Congress. I am not aware of the reasons for his contrary views now," the Rajya Sabha MP said when asked for his comment on the Congress leader's resignation from the party post. Reacting to his remarks, Lovely told PTI, "Sanjay Singh is a nice man, but I think he is still in trauma. He has not bee

Kejriwal's may stay CM despite arrest but students should not suffer: HC

The Delhi High Court on Monday said the decision of Arvind Kejriwal to continue as the Chief Minister after his arrest is "personal" but it does not mean that the fundamental rights of school-going children would be trampled upon. The high court also said that Kejriwal's absence cannot allow students to go through the first term without free text books, writing material and uniform in MCD schools. The high court said that a chief minister's post in any state, leave alone a buzzing capital city like Delhi, is not a ceremonial post and it is a post where the office holder has to be virtually available 24*7 to deal with any crisis or natural disaster like flooding, fire and disease. "National interest and public interest demands that no person who holds this post is incommunicado or absent for a long stretch of time or for an uncertain period of time. To say that no important decision can be taken during a model code of conduct is a misnomer," a bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan a

Lok Sabha elections: AAP claims party's poll campaign song banned by ECI

The AAP on Sunday claimed the Election Commission (EC) has imposed a ban on the party's Lok Sabha campaign song, 'Jail ke jawab mein hum vote denge', stating that it shows the ruling BJP and central investigation agencies in a bad light. There was no immediate response from the poll panel to the AAP's claim. Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Atishi said, "It is probably the first time that the EC has imposed a ban on a party's campaign song." According to the EC, she said, the song shows the ruling party and investigation agencies in a bad light. "The song does not mention the BJP and does not violate the Model Code of Conduct. It includes factual videos and incidents," she added. Atishi, who is also a Delhi government minister, accused the EC of not acting on poll code violations committed by the BJP. "If the BJP does dictatorship, it is right. But if someone talks about it, that is wrong. This shows that democracy is in danger. I want to urge the EC to act on the

SC to hear Kejriwal's plea against arrest in money laundering case Monday

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest in a money laundering case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta is likely to hear the matter. Kejriwal had earlier told the apex court that his "illegal arrest" in the case constitutes an unprecedented assault on the tenets of democracy based on "free and fair elections" and "federalism". In a rejoinder to the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) reply affidavit filed on his petition challenging his arrest in the case, Kejriwal said the mode, manner and timing of his arrest just before the Lok Sabha elections when the Model Code of Conduct had come into play, speaks volumes about the "arbitrariness" of the agency. Kejriwal claimed it is a "classical case" of how the Centre has misused the ED and its wide powers under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to "crush" the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders.

LS polls will mark rise of BJP in Punjab: State general secy Subhash Sharma

The Lok Sabha polls will mark the rise of the BJP in Punjab where the ruling AAP's "downfall" has begun, a senior BJP leader claimed on Wednesday. Punjab BJP general secretary Subhash Sharma said his party is getting immense support from people in the state for the elections polling for which will be held in the last phase on June 1. The BJP is contesting the Lok Sabha polls on its own for the first time since 1996. The Shiromani Akali Dal had walked out of the NDA in 2020 over the now-repealed farm laws. Addressing the media here, Punjab BJP leader Sharma said the party leadership will announce the candidates for remaining seats -- Ferozepur, Sangrur, Anandpur Sahib and Fatehgarh Sahib -- ?this week. The BJP has already announced its candidates for nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab. Sharma said despite propaganda and mudslinging by the rival parties, people of Punjab were supporting the BJP whole-heartedly. The BJP has emerged as a "big strength" in state politics, he said

Kejriwal stopped taking insulin months before his arrest: Tihar officials

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had stopped taking insulin months before his arrest and is on a basic anti-diabetes oral medicine, officials said on Saturday, citing a report by the Tihar jail administration to Lt Governor VK Saxena. In response, AAP leader Atishi said the report has "exposed" the BJP's "conspiracy". "At the behest of the BJP, a conspiracy is underway to kill Kejriwal in jail. The chief minister has been taking insulin for 12 years, what is the problem for the Tihar administration to give insulin to him?," she asked. The Delhi minister also claimed that Kejriwal used to take 50 units of insulin daily before he was sent to jail. Kejriwal -- who is under the care of a Telangana-based private doctor for diabetes -- stopped taking insulin a few months ago and, at the time of his arrest, he was on a basic anti-diabetes oral tablet called Metformin, the officials said, citing the Tihar report. During his medical check-ups in Tihar jail, Kejriwal told doctors that h
