State government, Formula E to take legal route after race cancellation

A blame game has started between Telangana government and Formula E after the cancellation of the electric race in Hyderabad. The second edition of Hyderabad E Prix was scheduled to be held on February 10 but Formula E cancelled the race alleging a breach contract by the new Telangana government. A four-year agreement was signed between Formula E, the BRS-governed Telangana government and Greenko, which pulled out of the event after the inaugural edition. Congress came into power in December and staging the race is not at the top of its priority list. Last week, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka said the his government would explore legal action against the tri-partite agreement between the Municipal and Urban department (MA&UD), Formula E and local promoter Greenko as it was executed in violation of Secretariat business rules. The iconic Usain Bolt took out the record-breaking Formula E car, GENBETA, for a spin ahead of the Mexico E Prix here. Indian racer Jehan Daruvala says it's the right time for him to move to Formula E, adding that he has no regrets about spending a few extra years in the junior series for a shot at the elusive Formula 1. Jehan moved to Formula E after spending four years in the F1 feeder series Formula 2, where he was a part of the Red Bull junior team. However, he failed to land a seat in F1. Formula E cancels Hyderabad E-Prix alleging contract breach by Telangana

Formula E has announced the cancellation of the Hyderabad E-Prix, alleging a contract breach by the new Telangana government. The second Formula E race in India was slated to be held on February 10. "The cancellation comes following a decision by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD), under the control of the Government of Telangana, not to fulfil the Host City Agreement signed on 30 October 2023," Formula E said in statement on Friday. The body, alleged a breach of contract by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD) that falls under the control of Telangana government. "Formula E Operations (FEO) has been left with no choice other than to formally give notice to MAUD that it is in breach of contract." Formula E race in India made economic impact of nearly Rs 700 cr: Report

Formula E's first-ever race in India, held in February earlier this year, made an economic impact of nearly Rs 700 crore, according to a report. The economic study conducted by Nielsen Sports Analysis calculated an USD 83.7 million (Rs 693 crore approximately) uplift to Hyderabad's economy as a result of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship's debut race in Hyderabad on February 11. More than 31,000 people attended or supported the race event, with the majority (59 per cent) coming from outside of Hyderabad and generating significant inward investment into the local economy, a Formula E press release said. Formula E's only double champion Jean-ric Vergne won the highly competitive race, which was watched live in more than 150 countries around the world. Porsche and Formula E have announced that the sports car manufacturer has extended its involvement in the all electric racing series through season 2025/2026. Porsche entered Formula E in 2019 with an initial five-year commitment until the end of the forthcoming Season 10 which will conclude in July 2024. The countdown to the first-ever ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race in India to be held in Hyderabad on February 11 kicked off on Wednesday with the sale of tickets for the prestigious event getting underway.
