The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has declared entire Nagaland as a "disturbed area" for six more months
The Assam government on Wednesday extended the existing 'disturbed area' status of the state for another six months from February 27 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).
This enables the continuation of the controversial AFSPA which empowers security forces to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without any prior warrant

The Centre on Monday declared the whole of Nagaland as a "disturbed" area under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, for a further period of six months.
The AFSPA has been applicable to the erstwhile state since 1990. However, Leh and Kargil areas under the new UT of Ladakh were never declared as disturbed
Under the Act, the security forces can arrest anyone or carry out searches in any premises
A home ministry official said the decision to continue the declaration of Nagaland as "disturbed area" has been taken as killings, loot and extortion have been going on in various parts of the state

The plea said that such prosecutions lower the morale of the military and para-military forces
