ICAR member requests PM to attach agri-scientists in G20 embassies

An ICAR Governing Body member on Thursday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint agri-scientists as attaches in Indian embassies across G20 countries to help achieve the target of becoming a developed nation by 2047. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Venugopal Badaravada expressed concern over limited progress in agricultural collaborations despite significant agreements with countries like Brazil. He pointed out that a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2008 between ICAR and Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA). Additional MoUs were signed during the 2016 BRICS Summit in Goa under PM Modi's leadership, involving the Ministries of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock & Food Supply, along with Brazilian body ABCZ, Badaravada said. India will always remember the positive changes that MS Swaminathan brought to the country's agriculture and farmers, and his contribution to food security, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said on Thursday, as he remembered the iconic scientist. Swaminathan (98), also known as the father of Green Revolution in India, passed away at 11.15 am at his Chennai residence, the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation said. "The news of the demise of famous agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan, the father of the Green Revolution, is deeply saddening," Tikait, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union, posted in Hindi on X. Era of agri research has come to an end: IARI chief on Swaminathan's death

An era of agricultural research, education and extension marked by disruptive innovations has come to an end with the death of MS Swaminathan, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) Director A K Singh said on Thursday. Renowned agricultural scientist Swaminathan (98), also known as the father of Green Revolution in India, died on Thursday in Chennai due to age-related illness. He is survived by three daughters. "In passing away of Prof. Swaminathan, ends an era of agricultural research, education and extension that was full of disruptive innovation. If God appears to poor and hungry in form of bread as said by Mahatma Gandhi, that God is Dr. Swaminathan who should be worshipped by every citizen while taking daily meals," Singh said in a statement. Safex Chemicals to invest Rs 100 cr in agri-tech segment in next 3-4 years

Agrochemicals maker Safex Chemicals Ltd on Tuesday said it plans to invest Rs 100 crore in its new agri-tech arm, AgCare Technologies, in the next 3-4 years for launching an interactive tech platform and for setting up a manufacturing unit. Speaking to PTI, the company's Group Director Piyush Jindal said, "We are investing Rs 100 crore from our own kitty. We are not raising any funds. The investment is planned for the next 3-4 years." The plan is to launch an interactive technology platform to integrate the entire value chain in the agri-economy. Key stakeholders, especially farmers, can buy quality crop protection products and get services like weather updates, experts' help and mandi rates on this platform, he said. "A pilot study of this interactive tech platform will be conducted in January-March.
