India's new ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra has met Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma to discuss strengthening the Indo-US strategic partnership. Delhi court reserves order on framing charges against Tytler in 1984 riots

A Delhi court on Friday reserved its order on whether to frame charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in an anti-Sikh riots case in which three people were killed. Special judge for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases Rakesh Siyal reserved the order after hearing arguments by the counsel for the central probe agency and the defence. The court is likely to pronounce the order on August 2. The CBI, while quoting a witness, had alleged in the charge sheet that Tytler stepped out of a white ambassador car in front of Gurudwara Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984 and instigated a mob to kills Sikhs. "Kill the Sikhs, they have killed our mother," Tytler, a former Union minister was alleged to have told the mob that led to the killing of three people. India is "deeply troubled" by the conflict in Gaza that has raged on for nearly five months now, the country's envoy to the UN has said, asserting that the loss of civilian lives and the resulting humanitarian crisis is "clearly unacceptable". Italian ambassador's wife injured in fireworks, FIR against Goa hotel owner

The Goa Police has booked the owner of a resort after the wife of the Italian ambassador to India suffered a head injury due to fireworks set off from the beach-facing facility, an officer said on Saturday. The incident occurred on January 1 during the New Year celebrations at Ashvem beach in North Goa. "Police registered an FIR on Friday (February 2) after Honorary Vice Consul of Italy in Goa, Shrinivas Dempo, lodged a complaint. The case was registered under section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code," the police officer said. The accused rashly and negligently allowed the launching of fireworks from the premises of the resort.
