Govt imposes anti-dumping duty on chemical from China, Korea, Thailand

India has imposed an anti-dumping duty of up to USD 557 per tonne on a chemical used mainly in the adhesive industry from China, Korea, and Thailand for five years to guard domestic players from cheap imports from these nations. The duty was imposed as the chemical - Epichlorohydrin - was exported to India from these countries at below-normal prices. "The anti-dumping duty imposed under this notification shall be levied for a period of five years (unless revoked, superseded or amended earlier)...," the department of revenue said in a notification. The levy is imposed following recommendations for the same by the commerce ministry's investigation arm Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR). Anti-dumping probes are conducted by countries to determine whether domestic industries have been hurt because of a surge in cheap imports. As a countermeasure, they impose these duties under the multilateral regime of Geneva-based World Trade Organization (WTO). The duty is aimed at ensuri

DGTR recommends anti-dumping duty on Chinese wheel loaders for 5 years

The commerce ministry's arm Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended an anti-dumping duty of up to 82 per cent on imports of wheel loaders from China for five years to protect domestic players. The product is a commonly used machinery in infrastructure and mining sectors. The recommendation came after a year-long investigation into the complaints of injury by domestic manufacturers of this product. According to a DGTR notification: "The Authority recommends imposition of definitive anti-dumping duties... so as to remove the injury to the domestic industry". It has concluded in its probe that the imports are coming at prices below the domestic sales price, injuring the domestic industry. Completely knocked-down kits have been excluded from the duties as this could end up with anti-dum

Met coke producers, suppliers demand 30% anti-dumping duty on imports

An association of producers and suppliers of metallurgical coke has sought imposition of a 30 per cent anti-dumping duty on met coke to protect the local industry from cheap imports. The Indian Metallurgical Coke Manufacturers Association (IMCOM) stated that there is a dire need to protect the domestic industry with adequate policy measures as India is turning out to be a dumping ground for imported met coke. "Rather, anti-dumping duties should be applicable to all countries irrespective of FTAs, which will help protect domestic manufacturers," IMCOM said in a statement. The move will protect the domestic industry and give a fillip to the government's vision of a 'self-reliant' India, the association stated. The merchant coke industry majorly caters to foundries, ferroalloys and the chemical sector among others. Though the merchant coke capacity in the country is around seven million tonnes, the current capacity utilisation is only around 30 per cent, and this is mainly due to ...
