Armenia, Azerbaijan hold talks in Prague in efforts to ease tensions

The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have held talks in Prague in efforts to ease tensions between the two longtime adversaries. Armenia agreed to facilitate a civilian EU mission alongside the border with Azerbaijan, according to a joint statement released early Friday, following a meeting on the margins of a European summit in the presence of the EU Council President Charles Michel and French President Emmanuel Macron. Azerbaijan agreed to cooperate with this mission as far as it is concerned, the statement said. Last month, Armenia and Azerbaijan negotiated a cease-fire to end a flare-up of fighting that killed 155 soldiers from both sides. Nancy Pelosi, other US lawmakers visit Armenia as cease-fire holds

A US congressional delegation headed by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi arrived Saturday in Armenia, where a cease-fire has held for three days after an outburst of fighting with neighbouring Azerbaijan that killed more than 200 troops from both sides. US speaker Pelosi to visit Armenia as cease-fire with Azerbaijan holds

The speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, said Friday she plans to make a weekend visit to Armenia, where a cease-fire held for a second day after an outburst of fighting with neighbouring Azerbaijan that killed more than 200 troops from both sides. Nearly 100 troops killed in fresh clashes at Armenia-Azerbaijan border

Fighting on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan has killed about 100 troops as attacks on both sides Tuesday fed fears of broader hostilities breaking out between the longtime adversaries. Armenia said at least 49 of its soldiers were killed; Azerbaijan said it lost 50. The fighting erupted minutes after midnight with Azerbaijani forces unleashing an artillery barrage and drone attacks in many sections of Armenian territory, according to Armenia's Defence Ministry. No military solution to any conflict: India on Armenia-Azerbaijan clash

In the midst of fresh fighting along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, India on Tuesday called upon the "aggressor side" to "immediately cease hostilities" and said there can be no military solution to any conflict. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India believes that bilateral disputes should be settled through diplomacy and dialogue. Armenia says 49 soldiers killed in late night attacks by Azerbaijan

Armenia's prime minister said on Tuesday that 49 soldiers were killed in nighttime attacks by Azerbaijan. Nikol Pashinyan said in Parliament that Azerbaijaini forces attacked about half a dozen points, the news agency Interfax reported. Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in a decades-old conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, which is part of Azerbaijan but has been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia since a separatist war there ended in 1994. During a six-week war in 2020 that killed more than 6,600 people, Azerbaijan reclaimed large parts of Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas that had been controlled for decades by the Armenia-backed separatists.
