Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has said that those involved in the unprecedented attacks on security installations on May 9 this year must not go unpunished and should be tried by military courts. In an interview with Geo News on Sunday, Kakar referred to the May 9 incidents in Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in an alleged corruption case. Kakar said that if the people attack an institution, which is responsible for saving the country from anarchy, they should be tried in military courts as per the law. On the government's appeal against the Supreme Court's decision to strike down military trials of civilians allegedly involved in the May 9 violence, Kakar said: "It is quite justified that if anybody attacked any military installation, he or she must be tried in military courts." Myanmar resistance claims capture of district capital from military govt

Armed resistance groups fighting Myanmar 's military government seized a district capital in the north on Monday after taking state offices and a police station in a four-day offensive, according to residents, the country's major opposition coalition and media reports. Kawlin in Sagaing region is the first administrative capital seized by the resistance forces in continuing strife since the army seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. Sagaing has been a stronghold of armed resistance to the army, which has responded with major offensives using ground troops supported by artillery and air strikes, burning down villages and driving hundreds of thousands of people from their homes. Loosely organised resistance groups opposed to army rule, known as the People's Defense Force, or PDF, have sprung up around the country since the army's takeover. They have made alliances with well-established armed ethnic minority groups such as the Kachin and Karen,

Fresh spate of attacks, security beefed up across Kashmir Srinagar

Security has been beefed up across Kashmir in the wake of a fresh spate of terrorist attacks in the valley which resulted in the killing of a police personnel and a non-local labourer, officials said. Security forces have intensified checking and frisking of vehicles and pedestrians in several parts of the city here as well as in other parts of the valley, the officials said. Nakas and mobile vehicle checkpoints (MVCP) have been established at all major intersections of the city, its entry/exit points, and important roads leading to district headquarters, they added. Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary CRPF personnel have been deployed at sensitive places, especially around minority population areas, the officials said. They said the security forces are also keeping a watch, including night domination, in the areas where non-locals reside. While most of the non-local labourers have left the valley because of the cold weather, few are still putting up in ghettos, they added.
