Delhi HC upholds order against plea to de-register AIMIM as political party

The Delhi High Court has upheld a decision against a plea seeking deregistration of the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM by the Election Commission of India. In a judgement passed on January 16, a bench of former acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela agreed with the decision of the single judge. The division bench therefore dismissed an appeal by one Tirupati Narasimha Murari. "The single judge had accordingly held that ECI does not have the powers to deregister AIMIM on the grounds as set out by the appellant in the said petition. We concur with the said view. In view of the above, the appeal is unmerited," it held. Challenging the registration of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Musalimeen (AIMIM) and saying as a political party, its constitution intended to further the cause only of one religious community -- Muslims, the plea alleged it was against the principles of secularism which every political party must adhere to under the Constitution and the Representati

Owaisi terms RSS as mother of BJP, AAP, says both follow 'Hindutva'

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday alleged that there is no benefit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi sending a 'chadar' to Ajmer Dargah and that the government should take steps to stop claims being filed in courts disputing the existing mosques or Dargahs. The message behind sending the 'chadar' is that the government takes care of those who keep faith in the mosques. However, the BJP and Sangh Parivar people are going to courts stating that Khwaja Ajmeri Dargah is not a Dargah as was their argument with some mosques, he told reporters here. The real work of the government is to put an end to such claims, Owaisi said. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Saturday offered a ceremonial 'chadar' sent by PM Modi at Ajmer Dargah on the 'Urs' of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Asked about Modi sending the 'chadar', Owaisi said those belonging to the BJP and Sangh Parivar outfits are approaching courts seeking excavations at several places in the country wi

SC to hear Owaisi's plea for implementation of 1991 places of worship law

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to consider a plea of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi seeking the implementation of the 1991 places of worship law, which asks to maintain the religious character of a place as it existed on August 15, 1947. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar ordered that Owaisi's fresh plea to be tagged with pending cases on the matter and said it will be taken up on February 17 with them. At the outset, lawyer Nizam Pasha, appearing for Owaisi, the president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), said that the court is seized of various pleas on the issue and the fresh one may be tagged with them as well. We will tag this, the CJI said. Owaisi filed the plea on December 17, 2024 through advocate Fuzail Ahmad Ayyubi. On December 12, however, the bench headed by the CJI, while acting on a batch of similar pleas against the 1991 law, restrained all courts from entertaining fresh suits and passing any interim or final

Bareilly court summons Owaisi over pro-Palestine slogan in Parliament

A local court has directed AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi to appear before it over a plea that claimed he had violated the Constitution by raising a slogan hailing Palestine in Parliament. Lawyer Virendra Gupta filed a petition against Owaisi over the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader voicing support for Palestine during his oath-taking ceremony in Parliament. Gupta said in his plea that the five-time MP had violated constitutional and legal beliefs. He told reporters on Tuesday that a petition was filed in the MP/MLA court on July 12 but it was rejected. Gupta then filed a revision petition in the court of the district judge. District Judge Sudhir allowed the petition and issued a notice to Owaisi on Saturday, asking him to appear before the court on January 7. Gupta said he was hurt by Owaisi's slogan. His slogan was against the Constitution, he added. Owaisi took oath as Hyderabad MP on June 25. After his oath-taking ceremony, he had hailed the conflict-

If plea asked right to access, then why did court order survey: Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said if the petition over a Mughal-era mosque at Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh had prayed for the right to access, then why a court there ordered a survey of the structure. Targeting the ruling BJP, Owaisi said such issues weaken the country, which is facing inflation, unemployment, farmer suicides and other issues. On November 19, a court of civil judge (senior division) of Sambhal passed an ex-parte order for a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid by an advocate commissioner, after taking note of a plea of the Hindu side claiming the mosque was built by Mughal emperor Babur in 1526 after demolishing a temple. On November 24, violence gripped the area during the court-ordered survey of the mosque, killing four persons and injuring many others. The Supreme Court on Friday ordered a Sambhal trial court to halt proceedings in the case over the Shahi Jama Masjid and its survey at Chandausi while directing the UP government to maintain peace and harmony in the ..

Our ancestors did jihad against Britishers, yours penned letters: Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has targeted Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis over his "vote jihad" remarks, claiming the BJP leader's (ideological) ancestors wrote "love letters" to Britishers instead of fighting against them. During a public meeting here on Sunday, Owaisi also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Ek Hai to Safe Hai" slogan goes against the diversity ethos. Fadnavis on Saturday claimed "vote jihad" had begun in poll-bound Maharashtra, which should be countered by "Dharma yuddha" of vote. He had mentioned the BJP's narrow loss in Dhule Lok Sabha constituency. Countering him, Owaisi said, "Our ancestors did jihad against Britishers and Fadnavis is now teaching us about jihad. (PM) Narendra Modi, (Union minister) Amit Shah, and Devendra Fadnavis together cannot defeat me in a debate." Owaisi claimed the "dharmayuddha-jihad" remarks amounted to poll code violation. "From where did 'vote jihad and dharmayuddha' come in democracy? You purchased MLAs; should

TTD favours Hindus in Tirumala, Centre wants non-Muslims in Waqfs: Owaisi

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday alleged that the new chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) favoured Hindu-only staff policy in Tirumala, whereas the NDA government at the Centre wants to induct non-Muslims in Waqf boards. On Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's comments in favour of parents having more children, Owaisi claimed that he would have been blamed for "doing population jihad" had he said the same thing. He also said south India would suffer if delimitation of constituencies is carried out on the basis of population. "TTD chairman says that all employees should be Hindu. The Kashi Vishwanath board has also said that all employees including the commissioner should be from Hindu religion," he told reporters here. He said the endowment boards of many states maintain that if the officials of the boards change religion, they will be removed from their posts, he said. Saying that he does not have any .

Congress has to take everyone along to defeat BJP: AIMIM chief Owaisi

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has said that 'secular' parties used to blame him for causing a split in anti-BJP votes in elections, but how did Congress lose in Haryana though the AIMIM did not field candidates? In a veiled reference to Congress, he said the "old party" has to take everyone along to defeat the BJP. "How did they (BJP) win (Haryana)? I was not there. Otherwise, they would have said 'B Team'... They lost there. Now, you tell me, they lost because of whom?," he said, addressing a public meeting at Vikarabad in Telangana on Friday night. "I would like to tell the old party. Understand what I am saying. You have to take everyone along to defeat Modi. You will not be able to do anything alone," he said. The BJP clinched a stunning hat-trick win in Haryana, overcoming anti-incumbency and dashing Congress' hopes of a comeback. The saffron party won 48 of the 90 assembly seats in Haryana, well above the simple majority mark of 46.

Owaisi targets Mohan Bhagwat, says RSS and PM pose danger to harmony

Slamming RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over his comments that the Hindu society must unite for its security by eradicating internal differences, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that it is the Sangh and PM Narendra Modi who pose a danger to Hindus, Muslims and others in the country. Addressing a public meeting at Nizamabad in Telangana Sunday night, he said neither Hindus or Muslims face any danger in the country. "The danger to Muslims, Hindus, Dalits, Adivasis, Sikhs, Christians is from Narendra Modi and Mohan Bhagwat," he said. Asserting that India is a Hindu nation, Bhagwat has said the Hindu society must come together for its security by eliminating differences in language, caste and regional disputes. Addressing a 'Swayamsevak Ekatrikaran' event in Rajasthan's Baran on Saturday evening, Bhagwat said the Hindus consider everyone as their own and embrace everyone. Alleging that Modi has troubled Hindus, Muslims and others during his rule, the AIMIM president said Modi ta

PM not visiting conflict-hit Manipur, trying to stop Ukraine war: Owaisi

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not visit conflict-hit Manipur, but is attempting to stop the Russia-Ukraine war. Addressing a meeting at the AIMIM headquarters here, he wondered why Modi does not go to Manipur where violent incidents, including rapes against women, have been reported. "Our Modi ji. What did he do? Manipur has been burning for almost a year. (He) sent NSA to Putin to stop Ukraine war, to Zelensky. Modi ji, there is fire in the house. Stop it. There is fire in the house but no worry about the house. (But) war should not take place in Ukraine," he said. Taking exception to Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar's reported comments that Madrasas are training its students on using AK-47 rifles, Owaisi sought to know why the former has such hatred for Muslims. Muslims made sacrifices during the freedom movement and Madrasas had issued 'fatwa' (notice) to fight against the British, he said. "You have a dise
