Tea Board officials inspect several gardens in Bengal to check quality

A special team of Tea Board officials inspected several gardens in North Bengal to determine the quality of leaves manufactured in these estates. An official of the Tea Board told PTI that several samples have been collected from these estates and their quality will be determined. "The operation was conducted at various tea gardens in North Bengal over the last several days on a large scale. Tea Board has collected samples from these estates and future course of action will be determined as per provisions of the Tea Marketing Control Order (TMCO)," the official said. Speaking on the occasion of chip plant's Bhumi Pujan ceremony, Chandrasekaran said that the company has already employed 1,000 people from Assam and as the facility expands it will bring entire semiconductor ecosystem companies. "At its capacity it will employ 27,000 people, 15,000 direct jobs and additional 12,000 indirect jobs. We want to move fast. We are trying to accelerate the building of this factory. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday claimed that the unemployment rate in the state was gradually declining and stood at 6.1 per cent in the 2023-24 financial year. Flood situation in Assam improves slowly, 130K people still affected

The flood situation in Assam improved on Sunday with the number of people reeling under the deluge decreasing to 1.30 lakh in 10 districts, officials said. Two major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, continued to flow above the danger level. A central team, comprising top officials from various ministries, visited the state to assess the damage caused by two waves of floods this year. Over 1.30 lakh people in 23 revenue circles and 423 villages across 10 districts remain affected in the state, the officials said. The affected districts are Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Kamrup Metropolitan and Cachar. Nagaon is the worst-hit district with more than 72,000 people still reeling under the deluge. Till Friday, the number of flood-hit people was 2.07 lakh in 10 districts. The flood situation in Assam improved on Thursday with water receding from several parts of the state even as over 3.5 lakh people in 11 districts remained affected, an official bulletin said on Thursday. Major rivers, including the Brahmaputra river, continued to flow over the danger level at various places, it said. Altogether 3,55,400 people continued to reel under the deluge in Cachar, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karimganj, Nagaon, Nalbari and Sivasgar districts. Dhubri remained the worst hit with nearly 80,000 affected people, followed by Nagaon (77,500) and Cachar (72,000). The number of affected people was over 4.04 lakh in 12 districts on Tuesday. The toll in this year's flood, lightning and storm in Assam was 113, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said in the bulletin. Assam govt, Tata Group ink land deal for Rs 27,000 cr semiconductor plant

The Assam Government on Tuesday signed an agreement with the Tata Group to lease over 170 acres of land to the company at Jagiroad in Morigaon district for a Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor plant. The 60-year lease agreement was finalised at the sub-registrar's office by Tata Group Board member Ranjan Bandopadhyay and Assam Industrial Development Corporation's (AIDC) manager (tech) and project in-charge Dhiraj Pegu. District Commissioner (DC) Devasish Sharma, along with Tata Group officials, including Kaninika Thakur, Ashish Mishra, and Avinash Dhabade, were present on the occasion.
