Aussie hockey player suspended for trying to buy cocaine at Paris Olympics

Field hockey player Tom Craig has been suspended for 12 months by the sport's Australian governing body for attempting to purchase cocaine at the Paris Olympics. Craig was arrested but released without charge after trying to purchase the drug in Paris on Aug. 7 during a night out after his Olympic campaign ended. He faced Australian media in Paris after French prosecutors issued a statement confirming the now 29-year-old Olympian a silver medalist at Tokyo three years ago was given a criminal warning and released after spending a night in custody. Following an investigation into the arrest involving national men's hockey team athlete Tom Craig at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Hockey Australia's Integrity Unit has imposed a 12-month suspension, the Hockey Australia statement said Wednesday. "Six months of this suspension will be served fully, with the remaining six months fully suspended, contingent upon meeting conduct and behavioral requirements. Hockey Australia said Craig

IND vs AUS hockey: India suffer 0-5 whitewash, lose fifth Test 2-3 in Perth

The Indian men's hockey team failed to avoid a 0-5 series whitewash after going down 2-3 in the fifth Test against Australia, completing a nightmare of a tour here on Saturday. The Indians entered the final game of the series after losing their previous four matches 1-5, 2-4, 1-2 and 1-3. The rubber was significant as far as preparation is concerned ahead of the upcoming Paris Olympics. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh (4th) and Boby Singh Dhami (53rd) were the goal scorers for India, while Australia sounded the board through Jeremy Hayward (20th), Ky Willott (38th) and Tim Brand (39th). The Indians started the game with an attacking mindset. Jugraj Singh lobbed the ball up to Jarmanpreet Singh in the Aussie half but failed to connect with the forward line. India took the lead in the fourth minute through Harmanpreet from a penalty corner as he registered his third goal of the series. Australia equalised in the 20th minute through Hayward, who scored his seventh goal of the series from a

IND vs AUS hockey: Series lost, India look to rectify mistakes in 4th game

The series already lost, India would look to work on their weak links ahead of the Paris Olympics when they take on the mighty Australia in the fourth men's hockey Test here on Friday. The Indians started the tour on a disastrous note losing 1-5 and 2-4 against the hosts but produced a stellar defensive display in the third Test on Wednesday before squandering a goal lead to lose 1-2 and hand the series to Australia. A visible improvement was witnessed in India's performance match by match in the series but yet it was not enough to upstage the formidable Kookaburras. For Indian's chief coach Craig Fulton , who is taking the series to test out his strategies ahead of the Paris Games, a lot is left to do. If one day the forward line performed, the next day it under-performed and vice versa for the defence as well. While India's defence dished out a gallant effort in the third Test, braving Australia's constant threats from start to finish, the forward line looked a pale shadow of .

India eye cohesive effort to keep 5-Test hockey series alive against AUS

The Indian men's hockey team would aim for a cohesive effort to avoid a hat-trick of losses when it takes on a formidable Australia in the third Test of the five-match series here on Wednesday. The Indians were drubbed 1-5 and 2-4 by Australia in the first two matches of the series, which is a part of preparations for this year's Paris Olympics for both the sides. The tour is of huge significance for India as it will provide valuable inputs about the areas to improve to chief coach Craig Fulton. And the first two matches have already done that as the Indian defence was put under continuous pressure by quick turnovers by the Kookaburras. The Indian defence, led by skipper Harmanpreet Singh, did not have the best days in the first two games as it wilted when put under pressure and conceded both penalty corners and soft field goals. The lack of ideas from the forwards inside the opposition circle is another area the Indians would need to address. The likes of Mandeep Singh, Abhishek

Indian women's hockey team stun better placed Australia 1-0 in Pro League

Forward Vandana Katariya scored from a penalty corner to help the Indian women's hockey team stun world number 3 Australia 1-0 in the FIH Pro League here on Saturday. Katariya scored in the 34th minute as world number nine India registered their second win of the tournament and also avenged last week's 0-3 loss to Australia in Bhubaneswar. India found themselves under pressure early in the first quarter as Australia was awarded a penalty corner in the third minute. However, the Indian captain and goalkeeper Savita Punia did well to keep the ball out. A few minutes later Jane Claxton took a shot at goal but it went on to hit the goalpost. The first quarter was plenty of action but ended without any goals being scored. The second quarter started with India being awarded a penalty corner early on but it wasn't converted. The Aussies won their second penalty corner in the 20th minute but failed to convert it. Both the teams made plenty of circle entries but the first-half ended ...

Australia beat India 5-1 in fourth match to lead hockey series by 3-1

India made a promising start by taking a first-half lead but its defence fell apart later as the team lost the fourth hockey Test 1-5 to Australia and conceded an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series, here on Saturday. The final match of the series will be played on Sunday. India had won the third match after losing the first two contests. Comeback man Dilpreet Singh (25th) struck early to give India the lead after a resolute defensive display by Harmanpreet and Co. in a goalless first quarter. But India's defence crumbled towards the fag end of second quarter with Jeremy Hayward (29th) and Jake Whetton (30th) scoring in space of 50 seconds. Tom Wickham (34th) extended the Kookaburras lead, before Hayward completed his brace (41st) . Matt Dawson entered the scoresheet in the 54th minute with a low volley strike that went past Krishan Pathak. Pathak, who came in place of the seasoned Sreejesh, however made some creditable saves to save India from more humiliation. On a s
