The 10th World Ayurveda Congress and AROGYA Expo began here on Thursday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the ancient Indian system of medicine has the potential to strengthen the global healthcare systems. In a message read out at the inaugural function of the event, Modi also reiterated the government's commitment to promote Ayurveda. Ayurveda has the potential to strengthen the global healthcare systems as it focuses on providing comprehensive remedies to various health problems and lays equal emphasis on prevention, nutrition and mental health, the prime minister said. Modi expressed confidence that the four-day meet will expedite the promotion of Ayurveda at the global level and asked the delegates to come out with a new blueprint for the purpose. Kairali Ayurvedic Group is aiming a consolidated revenue of Rs 150 crore by FY26, led by the expansion of its hospitality and Ayurveda treatment centres along with ramp-up of FMCG and OTC business, said its Executive Director Abhilash K Ramesh. The 76-year-old Kairali Ayurvedic Group (KAG) is largely split into three divisions - Ayurveda Centers, Hospitality and Ayurvedic Products - and each is charting its own growth plans, both in domestic as well as foreign markets. The Supreme Court sought the Centre's response on a plea seeking inclusion of ayurveda, yoga, and naturopathy in the national Ayushman Bharat scheme. A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued the notice to the Centre and others on the petition filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay. The plea, which sought inclusion of the practices in PM-JAY, also known as Ayushman Bharat, said the inclusion would allow a significant portion of the country's population to avail affordable healthcare benefits and wellness in various serious diseases, apart from providing employment to many working in the field of Ayurveda. Ayushman Bharat, which was launched in 2018, has two main components -- PM-JAY and Health and Wellness Centres. In a post on X to mark Ayurveda Day, which falls on the day of Dhanteras, the prime minister said, "It is an occasion to salute the innovators and practitioners who are blending this ancient knowledge with modernity, propelling ayurveda to new heights globally." He added, "From groundbreaking research to dynamic startups, ayurveda is furthering new paths to wellness. Supporting ayurveda is also a vibrant example of being vocal for local." D2C ayurvedic brand The Ayurveda Company on Thursday announced raising USD 3 million (Rs 22.89 crore) from a host of investors, including Wipro Consumer Care Ventures. "This will accelerate the growth towards becoming India's first & fastest growing D2C Ayurvedic Personal Care & Wellness Brand," said a statement from The Ayurveda Company (TAC). Funds will be utilised to ramp up growth, production capabilities and venture into the retail sector.
